Job Duties
The primary job of a freight sales representative is to prepare and organize the freight being transported on outgoing flights, as well as coordinate the unloading all incoming freights. Sometimes referred to as air freight agents, these employees must work with clients to garner sales, fill out invoices, and track freight during shipment. Freights sales representatives must use computers, telephones, calculators, and other technology to execute their duties as efficiently as possible.
Job Qualifications
Most airlines require that applicants be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma. Beyond that, only moderate physical strength and capable organizational skills are necessary to perform the duties of an air freight agent. Experience working with computers and customer service skills are definite advantages.
Salary & Compensation
A freight sales representative may start out earning a salary of $28,000 a year. The median pay for a freight sales representative receives ranges from about $45,000 to $50,000 annually. Pay rates vary by location, employer, and work experience. Experienced freight sales representatives may earn over $88,000 a year and earn employment benefits, such as healthcare coverage and 401(k) retirement plans.
