Airport Line Person Job Description & Salary Information
Job Duties
A line person is typically employed by a Fixed Base Operator (FBO) to greet and assist the passengers and crew of small airline or general aviation flights. Responsibilities include making sure the plane is properly parked, fueled, and serviced after landing. Additionally, a line person interacts with passengers and reports any causes of concern to the owner or operator of the aircraft. Private airlines employ workers in similar positions, but the term line person is generally reserved for those working for an FBO. These workers primarily deal with private planes and corporate jets.
Job Qualifications
Most FBOs only require line person applicants to have an interest in aviation, motivation, and good customer service skills since working with passengers is a large part of the job. Some employers may insist that job candidates be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma. The ability to work flexible hours is an advantage in this position.
Salary & Compensation
As an entry-level position, an airport line person typically begins earning pay just above minimum wage. Pay rates for line person jobs generally increase with experience. An experienced airport line person may earn $15.00 an hour or more. Some airports also offer job perks, including paid time off and flight vouchers.
