Airport Tour Guide Job Description & Salary Information
Job Duties
An airport tour guide works directly with the public offering educational tours and giving speeches and seminars to various groups ranging from schoolchildren to out of town business partners or potential investors. The responsibilities of this job involve showcasing an individual airport and walking around while providing information about it to tour groups. The tour guide must be personable, able to field questions on the fly, and be comfortable speaking to both large and small groups.
Job Qualifications
Tour guides are an entry level position and only require a high school diploma, although good speaking and customer service skills are necessary. Minimal training may be provided by the employer, but is typically gained through on the job experience. Knowledge of a foreign language is not required, but in larger airports, it may be an advantage during the hiring process. This position is hired by the airport itself and applications may be found by visiting the airport’s tour office.
Salary & Compensation
The average starting wage for an airport tour guide rests between $8.00 and $11.00 per hour. On average, airport tour guides earn about $13.00 an hour. Experienced tour guides may earn over $15.00 hourly. Some airlines also offer work benefits, including healthcare coverage and 401(k) plans, to qualifying tour guides.
