Assistant Airport Manager Job Description & Salary Information
Job Duties
Sometimes called the deputy director of aviation, the assistant airport manager supports the airport manager in performing any and all administrative duties. These responsibilities may include overseeing maintenance, equipment, and staff in various departments around the airport. Beyond the administrative aspect of the job, assistant airport managers are often required to type, file, answer phones and perform other general office activities.
Job Qualifications
Qualifications and pay can vary significantly depending on the size of the airport. Smaller airports may only require a high school diploma, but airports typically require a bachelor’s degree in airport management, business management, or a related field. In addition to educational requirements, larger airports may require a candidate have several years of experience working at an airport or in some management capacity. Other requirements may include exceptional communication and problem-solving skills as well as knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to airport operation. Considering the scale of airport administrative networks, there are many opportunities for advancement from this position. Successful assistant airport manager can advance to become airport managers or directors.
Salary & Compensation
An assistant airport manager may start out earning between $10.00 and $12.00 an hour. On average, airport assistant managers earn over $14.00 per hour. Experienced assistant managers may earn more than $16.00 an hour. In addition to worker experience level, the airport and location of employment may affect the wages of an assistant airport manager.
