In the United States Army, there are a number of clerical jobs that new recruits can start working toward. This category of Military Occupational Specialist (MOS) is geared toward administrative, financial, and clerical positions.
Job Duties
Administrative specialist, finance specialist, and medical supply specialist are among the clerical jobs available to new recruits in the U.S. Army. These positions are similar to jobs in the private sector like administrative assistant and accountant. An Army veteran with clerical experience will be qualified for work in a variety of office jobs and financial positions.
The responsibilities of all clerical workers in the U.S. Army will be similar. Specific job duties will vary by exact position, but responsibilities may include completing paperwork, recordkeeping, filing, and general accounting work. An applicant will need basic computer and organizational skills; however, any additional clerical training needed will be provided to new recruits. There are many different clerical positions available to Army recruits based on desire and aptitude. Apply online or talk to a recruiter to learn about specific opportunities.
Job Qualifications and Compensation
Beyond the basic requirements for entry into the U.S. Army pertaining to age, citizenship, education, health, aptitude, and criminal background, there are only minimal qualifications for becoming employed in a clerical capacity. For employment in a U.S. Army clerical job, a recruit must obtain satisfactory scores in the following sections of the ASVAB test: verbal expression, arithmetic reasoning, and mathematics knowledge. Beyond this test, training and any further education will be provided to a recruit interested in obtaining a clerical job.
Compensation will largely vary by rank and number of years served. Pay is modest starting out as a Private, but all employees of the U.S. Army have access to a comprehensive benefits package. Medical, dental, and life insurance are available to members of the armed forces and the immediate families of soldiers.
