Coast Guard Administrative Job |

|
As in the United States Air Force and Navy, the Coast Guard employs workers in the field of aviation. While not flying fighter jets, these Coast Guard employees maintain aircraft for Coast Guard use and may occasionally pilot helicopters.
Job Duties
Under administrative and scientific Coast ratings, one finds service jobs, science and technical work, and healthcare positions as well as general office work. Ratings like yeoman, storekeeper, marine sciences technician, and health services technician make up the administrative and scientific employment available to new Coast Guard recruits. After taking the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test, a recruit will declare a rating, which marks the end of the Coast Guard application process.
Scientific workers in the Coast Guard take readings, conduct experiments, and do investigative work relating to marine safety and environmental issues. Administrative employees of the U.S. Coast Guard complete paperwork, maintain records, communicate with other servicemen, and follow the chain of command. Regardless of job training received in the Coast Guard, veterans with administrative or scientific experience will be well-suited to a variety of employment after completion of service. If interested, apply online to join the Coast Guard or talk with a recruiter about specific administrative or scientific opportunities with the United States Coast Guard.
Job Qualifications and Compensation
Beyond the basic requirements to join the Coast Guard pertaining to age, citizenship, education, health, and criminal background, applicants must also pass the ASVAB test in order to begin training toward an administrative or scientific rating. Recruits must score highly in certain areas of the ASVAB test in order to be placed in a rating related to administrative or scientific work. Once accepted into a specific rating, a Coast Guard employee will receive training and take courses related to his or her rating.
Compensation will vary for Coast Guard servicemen based on rank and number of years served. Employees of the United States Coast Guard receive competitive pay and an extensive benefits package including both financial and health-related perks. Even entry-level Coast Guard workers are eligible to take advantage of these benefits in addition to base salary.
