Amazing opportunities await you when you join the Navy, but if you’re not in yet, where do you go? There are so many ways to job classifications available; it’s hard to know where to begin. One thing the Navy is always recruiting for, however, is construction workers.
Job Duties
As a member of the construction crew in the Navy, you’ll be doing more than just taking orders. While some of the government’s fleet is built by private contractors, there are a number of construction projects the Navy handles. Job duties of a Navy construction worker can range from moving and installing technology to building an actual ship or submarine.
A couple of different job titles await you if you’re looking to start a construction career in the Navy. The United States Navy has employment opportunities as builders, construction electricians, and construction mechanics. Beyond taking orders from superior officers, it will be part of your work day to build and install crucial equipment and systems as well as occasionally retrofitting older models. Any other job duties will depend on your specific rating.
Job Qualifications and Compensation
Before you ever take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test, there are several basic qualifications for joining the Navy. Potential recruits need to be between the ages of 17 and 34, be a citizen of the United States or legal alien with a permanent residence, have a high school diploma or GED, and pass certain medical, moral, and legal standards. If that sounds like you and you’ve spoken to a recruiter, then it’s time to take the ASVAB test. If you’re looking to work in some construction capacity, career paths require decent marks in arithmetic, mechanical, and mathematics knowledge, and occasionally auto shop knowledge. Other than passing basic training and going through schooling for your rating, you need to understand that you’ll be making a commitment to serve in the Navy for no less than two years.
However, if you make it through all these requirements, then you’re looking at some amazing benefits. Beyond the fraternity you get from serving in the Navy, you’ll also receive excellent medical care, great pay, a chance to travel the world, and more. Although these positions are similar, pay in the Navy is based on rank and number of years served rather than career title. You can apply online to speak with a recruiter today and figure out the kind of future that awaits you while serving your country.
