History / Background Information:
Burger King, which is formally known as Insta-Burger King is a world-wide series of hamburger fast food restaurants. In 1953, Burger King was founded in Jacksonville, Florida. A man named Kieth Kramer and his uncle Matthew Burns started the first restaurants only using a device called an Insta-Broiler. Since the Insta-Broiler cooked hamburgers so perfectly, all the franchises had to carry the machine. In 1959, when the new owners James McLamore and David Edgerton took over, they renamed the company Burger King.
Burger King’s menu started with selling burgers, fries, sodas and milkshakes. In 1954, the company included fish, chicken, salads and breakfast items. Burger King is widely known for its trademark sandwich called the Whopper. The owner of the company James McLamore started the Whopper in 1957.
Burger King currently has over 30,000 locations world-wide. Also, since customers love Burger King’s food so much the company makes more than 2.4 billion dollars in revenue annually. Also, the company employs a large number of 400,000 people. Burger King serves more than 35 million customers daily.
