Job Duties

What Are the Responsibilities of a Casino Bartender?
Casino bartender primary job duties consist of greeting guests, taking orders, mixing and pouring drinks, and ringing out transactions. To provide prompt service, bartenders should maintain a thorough knowledge of liquor, beer, and non-alcoholic selections at the casino bar. Additional job duties may include monitoring guest alcohol consumption, listening and responding to guest concerns and complaints, restocking supplies, and maintaining a clean bar area. Barbacks, or bar assistants, support bartenders on duty with inventory, cleaning, and basic customer service. Head bartenders monitor inventory levels, reorder supplies, and manage bar staff members.

Depending on the state, the legal working age for bartender jobs ranges between 18 and 21 years old. In order to serve customers quickly and effectively, a bartender needs to possess the ability to multi-task. Bartenders should also have friendly, outgoing personalities and excellent verbal communication skills. Bartending jobs involve some physical activity. Bartenders should possess the ability to lift heavy objects, move around, bend down, and remain standing for extended period of time. Some employers may require applicants to hold a high school diploma or GED for employment consideration. Some casinos may look for workers with some prior bartending experience. Upscale casinos may prefer applicants who hold vocational degrees in mixology or possess a few years of bartending experience.

Starting pay for casino bartender jobs ranges from $8.00 to $9.00 an hour before tips. Depending on location and employer, experienced bartenders may earn up to $15.00 an hour. On average, a casino bartender earns a base salary of around $20,000, or about $10.00 an hour before tips. A bartender may double his base pay with tips from customers.
