Job Duties
Medical equipment preparers work right alongside nurses, doctors, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals. It is their responsibility to prepare and inspect medical equipment before use. Some of this equipment may include everything from surgery utensils, IV units, EKG machines, and ultrasound equipment. Medical equipment preparers might also be responsible for performing various laboratory tasks as well as record results of sterilization processes and equipment wear and tear. Medical equipment preparers typically work independently. While this job is not physically demanding or overly intensive, work in this profession is done thoroughly and to the best of one’s abilities, as the lives and care of patients greatly depend on job performance.

Medical equipment preparers should also have knowledge of the equipment they’re working with as well as a sound background and education in public safety and security. This profession requires an attention to detail, in addition to a great deal of professional honesty that must be administered at all times while on the job. To become a medical equipment preparer, applicants must generally hold at least a high school education, with either some college or vocational training in addition to having prior experience in the field.
