Hotel Maintenance Worker Job Description |

Job Duties
No matter what kind of hotel you’re looking for work at, there will always be repairs to carry out or messes to clean up in the facilities. A majority of hotel chains, especially the larger ones, hire their own staff instead of hiring out maintenance or janitorial work. If you’re looking to begin working in the hospitality industry, the maintenance and janitorial staff is a great place to begin.
These jobs typically result in a number of different duties, but every position will require you to be able to lift at least 25 to 50 pounds, so it helps to be in shape. On any given day, you could be rewiring faulty electrical circuits, handling broken plumbing, taking readings and making logs, cleaning large areas, and responding to guest concerns. You could be asked to repair broken equipment or perform preventative maintenance on a variety of equipment. In any event, you are expected to comply quickly and efficiently to any requests by management within your expertise.
Job Qualifications and Compensation
Maintenance and janitorial jobs at hotels are rarely entry-level positions. Most require at least a year’s worth of prior experience in a maintenance capacity as well as a high school degree or equivalent. Additionally, you are expected to be familiar with any equipment your job requires. This will probably include fixing small appliances, laundry facilities, kitchen equipment, pools, and HVAC systems. To repair these items, you will be responsible for using power and hand tools as well as a variety of job-specific equipment.
Many janitorial and maintenance positions require you to have a specialization in refrigeration, plumbing, mechanical, or in any number of other areas, although on-the-job training may be provided to promising applicants. Of course, there are also physical requirements including lifting and standing or kneeling for long periods of time. The work may involve operating heavy machinery and working long shifts. Since maintenance and janitorial employees could be working closely with hotel guests, customer service skills are a must.
Maintenance and janitorial employment is stable and frequently becomes a full-time career. Most of these positions come with benefits packages, including a 401(k) retirement plan, vacation time, and healthcare. The average salary for hotel maintenance and janitorial staff tends to vary depending on experience, certification, and specialization, but pay is usually around $12 to $14 per hour when you first start working. Fill out that maintenance or janitorial application now to receive your hotel employment opportunity.
