Job Interview Question & Answer: Do You Think a Manager / Boss / Employer Should Be Feared or Liked?

How to Answer the Question:

This is a trick question. It is unimportant whether a manager is feared or liked. What matters is that a manager is effective and promotes what is good for the company. You want the interviewer to understand you know this during the hiring process. Managers and subordinates rarely need a friendship to achieve functional goals for the company. Managers often have to make tough and unpopular calls in the business world.

Your answer to this question is very important. Don’t talk about previous bosses during your job interview, especially in a negative light. Don’t give examples for this answer. Keep your answer short and professional and let the interviewer know you understand even the best managers may have to upset their employees at times for the good of the company.

    i would say both
    feard because you never know if youll get fired
    and liked because its your boss you have to be frendly to the boss and anyother worker plus i think its good to like the boss thats my point of view

    That doesn’t matter as long as the boss is doing his or her job properly. They are not going to work to make friends they are foing to work to work. Friends don’t keep the business running the boss does and as we all know you can’t make everyone like you.

    The manager needs to create a cooperative work environement so being liked helps.However the manager also needs to be respected & see to it the employees stay productive.So a bit of both.

    How about this answer:
    “I am going to say neither. Managers need to be respected because of the decisions they make on a regular basis.”

    I will respect them first. Later if I know them better, maybe i can feel fear or like. But it does not prevent me to do my job because I know what I suppose to do.

    BOTH BUT AT THE SAME TIME IT REALLY DOESN’T MATTER AS LONG AS HE OR SHE IS DOING THE RIGHT THING ON HIS OR HER JOB THEN THAT IS OKAY

    Life can not always be a popularity contest, the important thing to remember is that regardless of personal feelings, the boss will always have the company’s best interest in mind and sometimes I may not like the decisions made but I will respect and abide by them.

    How is this answer?

    “Their popularity among the employees should not matter. As long as the manager is doing their job and working for the benefit of this company they should always be respected.”

    I think neither…
    I think the manager must be respected at all times. However, what matters is if the manager is doing their job properly.

    PROFESSIONAL = feared
    PERSONAL = liked
    I think a little fear is good, as long you don’t use it as a scare tactic. People just need to learn how to separate the 2. REMEMBER never take it personally.
