Job Interview Question & Answer: Have You Ever Fired Someone and How Did that Make You Feel?

How to Answer the Question:

Be honest. If you’ve never fired someone, the interviewer might ask you to consider what it might make you feel like. The employer wants to hear that you put the good of the company above personal loyalties or moral qualms when making necessary cuts to the staff for this job interview question. Keep your responses positive and never discuss your personal emotions; rather, let the interviewer know you value the company too much to abide poor performance and apathetic employees.

Do not express pleasure in the act of ending someone’s employment. Don’t act like a staff cut is impersonal or of little consequence. The interviewer wants to know you handle disciplinary actions with thought and candor while keeping the best interests of the company at the forefront of your managerial decision making.

Well I have and it was just because this person didn’t follow the handbook policy and was off training and still saying she had never been showed important things which I know for a fact was not correct because I personally had shown her several different times. So I called in someone that wanted more hours and than I had to have my talk with her. Not a fun thing to do but you can’t have someone bringing down the team and disobedient to the restaurant.
