Job Interview Question & Answer: How Do You Propose To Compensate For Your Lack Of Experience?

How to Answer the Question:

Theoretically, this is where your research of the company will come in handy. You should be well aware of what it takes to apply for this position. During the job interview, this question is meant to trip you up. If asked this question during the hiring process, you should stress how your experience, education, skills, and training make up for any perceived shortcomings.

This is the time to prove you are fully qualified for this position. Highlight phrases in the job listing that you are fully qualified for. Try to talk about yourself as though you are the most qualified candidate for the job. Remember to stay positive and professional. This is not the time to be defensive or uncertain of your abilities to succeed in this job.

Even if you’re under qualified for the job you applied for, stress how much you want to work for this employer. This is where knowledge of the company comes in handy. Highlight strengths that will make it easy for you to accomplish assigned responsibilities rather than focusing on what you don’t know yet. Recommendations from previous employers will be very important under these circumstances.
