The United States Marine Corps, or USMC, was founded in 1775 to conduct ship-to-ship fighting, security and discipline enforcement, and to assist all other armed forces. For hundreds of years, the U.S. Marine Corps has been the preeminent authority on amphibious and other kinds of warfare. The Marine Corps is famous for responding on short notice to military crises.
Semper Fidelis – Latin for always faithful – is more than a motto; it’s a way of life. The Marine Corps is a brotherhood that lasts forever. Unlike other branches of the armed forces, you have to graduate and earn a high school diploma to enlist in the Marine Corps. Men and women aged 17 to 29 can join the Marines, so long as certain requirements are met. You must have two or less dependents if married, be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, pass a criminal background check, be in good physical condition, and score at least a 32 on the Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test.
There are many jobs you can obtain by joining the Marine Corps ranging from infantry soldier to professional positions like doctor or lawyer. You can benefit in many ways by choosing to enlist in the Marine Corps. As a Marine, up to 100 percent of your education expenses may be paid for depending on years of service and the specific educational program. Additionally, every active Marine and the soldier’s immediate family are covered by free extensive medical and dental insurance. Comprehensive benefits packages may be available depending on rank and years of service.
Marines are taught values and traits like courage, adaptability, and the ability to motivate and inspire those around them. Soldiers in the Marines are taught to be leaders to every level. Enlisted men and women are trained to act instinctively and effectively regardless of the situation. There are many career paths available to you once you join in the Marines. Depending on your skills and desired training, you can choose a Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) from a variety of options. Some of the available jobs in the Marines can be found working in aviation, logistics, command, infantry, medical services, weapons, and Special Forces. Once you enlist into the Marine Corps and complete basic training, you start out working as a Private. As a Private, your job duties are to develop leadership skills, work on assignments, and perform them to the best of your ability. Within a year, you will be promoted to Private First Class or Lance Corporal, the duties of which will include training in your Military Occupational Specialty. Hard workers will have the opportunity to be promoted through the ranks to Sergeant, Warrant Officer, Captain, Major, Colonel, or even General. As an officer in the Marine Corps, your duties will be to supervise soldiers and advise the other officers in command.
As an employee of the Marine Corps, you are taught to lead at every level and are trained to act intuitively and efficiently regardless of the situation. Marines get a massive benefits package. Every Marine and his or her family receive free medical and dental insurance. Life insurance is also available at very little cost. These medical benefits will last for a lifetime if you make a career in the Marines. Additionally, every soldier receives a housing allowance which can be applied to on or off-base living expenses. If you attended college and acquired school loans before recruitment into the Marines, the Marine Corp has financial assistance available to all recruits. Depending on your commitment, the Marine Corps may even pay off your existing loans. Soldiers are offered additional education and training at no cost. Last but not least, every Marine is entitled to 30 days’ leave annually to take a vacation, visit family members, and relax.

February 25th, 2011 at 3:37 amIf any of you do join the Marines, stay away from 3rd Marines. As a Marine myself I must say even with all the motivation I have or had about being a Marine, 3rd Marines has got to be the worst regiment in USMC history. I say this because there is large amounts of “red tape” hiding away all the corrupt documents they have also I have never in my career seen so many Marines request MAST in my life. An investigation is well needed or at least a well supervised “poll” should be taken not from Officers and SNCO’s but from the hard working NCO’s and Non-NCO’s the ones who really deal with all the crap especially if 3rd Marines are their first duty station.

I also tried to join my country’s army but i was denied a chance. I would feel very bad if I died without serving the US Army.
