History / Background Information:

Founded in 1984 and based in Louisville, Ky., Papa John’s Pizza is the third largest take-out and delivery pizza restaurant chain in the United States. John Schnatter, founder, began his career at a pizza place in Indiana when he was in high school. He continued his affiliation with pizza as a student at Ball State University, where he worked as a delivery driver. When he graduated, he started working in his father’s bar. In 1983, he sold his Chevrolet Camaro Z28 to buy out the other owner of the bar to start serving pizza.

Recently, the chain expanded its menu, adding thin-crust, pan pizza, and chicken strips and wings.

Internationally, there are more than 3,300 Papa John’s restaurants, including more than 2,600 in the U.S. and more than 500 in over 30 other countries.

Schnatter tried to find his Camaro in 2009 after the chain was securely established. The original buyers saw him discuss his search for the Camaro on a television interview. They sold the car five years before to another buyer, who received a $250,000 reward for returning it to Schnatter. The original buyers were paid $25,000 for finding the car.
