Recreational Equipment Inc., known as REI, began in 1938 when Lloyd and Mary Anderson opened their first outdoor supply store in Seattle, Washington. Being climbing enthusiasts themselves, they decided to build a company providing other climbing and hiking enthusiasts with the best outdoor equipment at affordable prices. In the 1970’s, the name changed to REI Co-op where the main product line consisted of equipment for experienced climbers, hikers, and mountain climbers.
REI spread their product line out in the 1980s to other types of outdoor recreational activity equipment suitable for family excursions. These new products catered toward kayaking, outdoor sports, and cycling. Currently, REI has over 100 stores in 27 different states throughout the United States and typically opens an average of five new stores per year in the U.S.

January 25th, 2011 at 3:47 pmBrentwood has a REI and I go there a lot. I was hoping to get a job as a sale associate here, because I’d rather be a sale associate than anything else. If I would get hired here would I get paid weekly or every other week? I hope to find a job soon where I can get paid weekly.
