History
The first Starbucks coffeehouse opened in Pike Place Market in Seattle, WA, in 1971. Founded by two teachers, Jerry Baldwin and Zev Siegl, and a writer, Gordon Bowker, Starbucks takes its name from Starbuck, the first mate on the Pequod in Moby Dick. Starbucks originally sold only high-quality coffee beans until entrepreneur Howard Schultz bought into the company in 1982 and suggested selling espresso and coffee drinks, as well. The original owners initially rejected the idea of selling coffee drinks but sold the company to Schultz in 1987. Starbucks grew into an international coffeehouse legend under Schultz and expanded rapidly across the globe. Today, Starbucks operates more than 17,000 locations in over 55 countries.

July 12th, 2010 at 1:26 pmApril,
Starbucks is a great place to work. You get hourly pay plus tips, so you’ll be making quite a bit. Also, if you’re able to work full-time, you get benefits as well. The outfit you described sounds good, most places expect you to dress business casual. Try to wear some heels if you have any — but not ones that you can’t walk in!

June 22nd, 2010 at 12:59 pmEither way is fine, but if you’re looking for a faster response, apply in person. They almost always look at your application right then and there.

February 9th, 2011 at 2:54 pmGood to know that you can fill an app out in store or print one online and bring it in store. I’m 24 just was laid off from a great job. But I need something to keep me busy. I don’t care if it’s a HS job, just until something better opens up and if so I’d love to keep this job part-time if I love it enough which I hope I do! Never worked food service before but worked mostly retail (clothing) and customer service. So I’m hoping that’s an easy in for me.

April 7th, 2011 at 8:37 pmMost likely they will not call you. It is best to call the Starbucks location that you have applied at for a status update on your application, plus it shows that you really want to get the job.
June 8th, 2011 at 1:56 pmWill Starbucks accept my printed application even though most people apply online?

August 12th, 2011 at 5:35 amI was thinking about opening up a Starbucks in south Italy (Lecce). Would that be possible? How….
November 21st, 2011 at 1:04 pmAny advice?
I went to a few Starbuck’s Coffee locations in my area. I was turned down because apparently they no longer accept paper applications–only online applications. I offered to just leave the paper app that I had ready for their manager and I was told that the manager will most likely just throw it away. I guess they’re really competitive with new employees that could possibly hog their hours away.. or maybe I have to have ginormous ear piercings [the size of satelite dishes] in order to work there. Anyways, just a reminder for everyone 1) don’t take sh*t from people 2) don’t waste your time printing a Starbuck’s application. Happy job hunting!
