ABM Jobs and Salary Options

Job seekers generally need to stand at least 18 years of age to work for ABM. Positions often remain available regardless of educational backgrounds, though high school diplomas or GED equivalents may aid job seekers. The following entry-level opportunities remain lucrative options:

General Cleaner – Cleaners improve the visual appeal of work environments through custodial work. Mopping, sweeping, dusting, and emptying trash receptacles comprise regular job duties. Teamwork and attention to detail remain critical aspects of positions. Workers should also stand healthy enough to crouch, kneel, and walk for extended periods of time. Cleaning normally takes place after businesses close, so employees often work late hours, including overnight shifts. Starting pay for entry-level general cleaners stands at $9.00 per hour.

Maintenance Technician – Maintenance technicians repair, preserve, and operate mechanical equipment and systems in designated buildings. Duties vary as needed and may range from changing light bulbs to resolving plumbing issues. Painting, HVAC upkeep, and electrical work also prove common responsibilities. Technicians must occasionally interact with customers to find out the nature of issues and complete relevant paperwork after resolving problems. Candidates with two or more years of maintenance experience stand strongly favored for hire. Employees may make up to $15.00 or more in hourly wages.

Landscape Laborer – Landscape laborers maintain greenery and foliage around client properties. Responsibilities often include trimming hedges and trees, mowing and weeding lawns, and mulching and watering flower beds. Though new entrants to the workforce regularly attain landscaping positions, familiarity with basic grounds-keeping duties and equipment strongly benefits applicants. Workers should also possess considerable stamina, as outdoor exertion proves an everyday part of jobs. Landscapers often work seasonally and earn around $11.00 per hour. Employees must obtain driver’s licenses prior to hire.

Tips For Applying

Available jobs generally prove accessible to most applicants. However, candidates with previous custodial or mechanical experience stand better chances of hire with the company. Wear professional attire when visiting corporate offices and meeting with human resources personnel. Job seekers normally find applications online, though submitting documents in person may remain an option at some ABM locations.

Application Status

Job candidates may follow up with human resources personnel to check on submitted applications. Telephone calls and visits to hiring offices largely prove acceptable methods of inquiry. Staffing processes may take anywhere from a few days to a month, so applicants should not assume an absence of response means lack of interest in hiring. Remain personable and polite during phone calls or company visits.

ABM provides eligible employees and employee family members with high-quality job benefits. Insurance options range from medical and life insurance to dental and vision plans along with injury compensation coverage. 401(k) retirement plans and stock purchase discounts often stand available to full-time laborers, as well.
