CANTON, Ohio–(BUSINESS WIRE)–, the number one resource for online job applications, awarded recently a $1,000 scholarship to one of 400 applicants. The scholarship initiative given once a year is designed to assist working parents currently enrolled in higher education. The winner is Sandra Moore of Gilbert, Ariz., who is a computer science major at Arizona State, a wife, a mother of two small boys and a night shift employee.

“Being selected for this award is a huge honor for me. While nothing will compare to the feeling of achievement that I will have on the day I receive my diploma and embark on my career, being recognized for my success in balancing a family, academics and a job is very rewarding,” Moore said. “Especially having small children, this prize will certainly have a positive impact for my family, and I am continually grateful for all the help and support I am receiving to further my education.”

Scholarship applicants were asked to submit a 600 to 1,000 word essay on how to successfully balance parenthood, working and excelling in school. Some common key themes throughout the submissions were:

  • Time management and scheduling
  • Organization and routine
  • Stress management and having alone time
  • Maintaining good physical and mental health
  • Setting goals and maintaining priorities
  • Family support
  • Flexibility
  • Focusing on one task at a time
  • Always giving your all
  • Staying positive and appreciating what we have

“We were thrilled at the overwhelming response with the number of applicants and quality of the essay submissions,” said Doug Crawford, President of “Sandra’s essay stood out as she described her trials and tribulations being a working parent while attending school full time. We are very proud to be able to help in a monetary way to continue her education and meet her goals.”
