American Eagle Floor Associate Interview Video

Video Transcript

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.

American Eagle Floor Associate: I was a floor associate, so I did the folding. I went and I cleaned out the changing rooms, stuff like that, went in the back if people needed extra sizes, that kind of stuff.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?

American Eagle Floor Associate: Very friendly and open. I enjoyed it, as I’m a social person, so I got to meet new customers every day and give my opinion or ask if they needed any help. So it was definitely open. All the workers, we were very social so it didn’t feel too much like a job, so it was pretty nice.

Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?

American Eagle Floor Associate: My favorite part was probably the discounts I got on clothes. So I was a big advocate when I worked there. I wore a lot of American Eagle, so being able to get some discounts on the clothes was nice.

Interviewer: Please describe the application and interview process.

American Eagle Floor Associate: So the application process was like any other. You get your application and your paper form. You fill out your normal stuff, your name, your number, your home address, if you’ve graduated high school or not. And then after you send that in, you get a call back. Then you do an interview. So the interview, for me it was a group interview. There was about seven of us, I’d say, and we walked outside the store to a closed off section of the mall and we all lined up on the wall and they did a group interview. They asked … A lot of it was more personal questions, like interests and stuff like that. They wanted to see what kind of person you were, and they wanted to see more so if you fit in with their environment, the open, friendly, what your style was because obviously they want you help repping their brand and stuff like that.

Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?

American Eagle Floor Associate: They definitely asked what clothing lines we wore. They asked what our hobbies were, and to describe ourselves in a couple of words, that way they’d get a sense of our personalities. They also asked if we were afraid to talk to people or if we were more outgoing, social. Those were the main questions they asked.

Interviewer: How were you notified that you received the job?

American Eagle Floor Associate: It took about two weeks after and it was by phone call.

Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?

American Eagle Floor Associate: I think it was just … I was very open to talk. I wasn’t afraid. I think they saw that I definitely wanted the job. When I was talking, I made sure to have a very up tone voice and look attenuative, so I’d say that definitely set me apart because you can see some people were just leaning on the wall, kind of slouching, talking, and then I was up, trying to sound … Not trying to, but I was trying to show my excitement for actually getting the job, showing that I wanted to put in the effort. When they asked my personality, I said I was a hard worker. I said that I’m willing to go out of the way to help any other people. It’s more so being a team player there is what they definitely wanted to see and I think I showed those attributes.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?

American Eagle Floor Associate: Definitely helps to get a recommendation, so knowing someone that works there. Also when you go into your interview, not necessarily … You don’t want to look all dressed up and snazzy, more so is you want to look more stylish and as to if you can actually fit into their program.

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
American Eagle Employee: Job title… I was a sales associate. Basically, I stocked things, I was in charge of the dressing room, and I was trained on the register, as well.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
American Eagle Employee: Work environment was very upbeat. Cool, kind of hip.

Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee.
American Eagle Employee: A little stressful, only because American Eagle was very hot in demand back then. People coming, going. It was in the mall, so it was like the later part of the afternoon when kids were getting out of school, they would come.

Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?
American Eagle Employee: My favorite part was just interacting with other people. Interpersonal. Besides sales, you learn a lot about people. It also helps with your sales pitch, actually sitting down and having a conversation with them.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
American Eagle Employee: The application I thought was a bit much. They had the basics, but the references… they had a lot of references that you need to have. You had to have interpersonal skills, basically. They weren’t hiring anybody that was real quiet or too laid back. You had to have a personality. Another thing about the application was as long as you met the basic criteria, the interview was the big thing to focus on.

Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
American Eagle Employee: Leadership skills, past experience, why do I want to work at American Eagle, things like that.

Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?
American Eagle Employee: I think it was my personality. I came business formal, but I still made jokes with my interviewer, and things like that. I had a personality that they liked.

American Eagle Employee: Kind of be cool, different, but still be yourself. Don’t try to go too far out of your way.

Video Transcript

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
American Eagle Sales Associate: I was a retail person who also did cashier stuff. My primary duties were to cash people out, fold clothes, stock clothes in the back, and make sure that everything looked nice in the store.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
American Eagle Sales Associate: It was really friendly. I liked it, especially since you get a lot of people your age coming in and shopping, and helping people to pick outfits, and it was a lot of fun.

Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?
American Eagle Sales Associate: Picking outfits. It was really fun, especially since there was this one girl who always came in and I would basically pick out her whole wardrobe. Helping people, and picking out what they wear was really fun.

Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee.
American Eagle Sales Associate: Essentially you go in, clock in, see if there’s anything low in the stockroom. If you need to order jeans or anything like that, tell your boss if you see anything out of place. Work the cash register, go fold clothes clothes, clean the back room, that kind of thing.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
American Eagle Sales Associate: One was a written application, and then I had my first interview. The application was what past experience you had, if you had any experience in retail, any experience in clothing, if you are in school, when you could work, and if you could work full-time. The interview was why you think you were a good fit for this job, are you good with people, are you good with fashion, do you like working in the retail industry.

Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
American Eagle Sales Associate: Again, my schedule was very important to them. They also hired seasonal shifts, so it depended if you were just working for the summer, and I was just working for the summer. I could work full-time in the summer, so they were definitely a big fan of that. Possible retail experience, which I had at that point, and if you’d been convicted of any felonies at that point.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
American Eagle Sales Associate: I think definitely having the past retail experience helped me a lot, and being able to work the cash register and talk to people. Also, my interest in fashion set me apart. I think number one was probably my schedule. I could work to their basis and to what they needed.
