General Interview Tips
Retailer BCBG hires highly personable and fashionable individuals to staff store locations. The fashion house conducts seemingly countless job interviews to find associates with a high sense of fashion, social skills, determination, and work ethics. Stores across the country allow qualified job seekers the opportunity to work for the company. Truly dedicated applicants should prepare accordingly for each job interview.
What to Expect
BCBG hiring managers strive for balance between professional and casual during company job interviews. Quite often, candidates face one-on-one question and answer sessions with store managers. Most interviews cover a range of interview topics regarding working in retail and the expectations of such an environment. Applicants with previous retail employment should use their experience to answer many of the questions. As a company looking to break out from the competition, the fashion house encourages applicants to know a little about the brand and clothing lines. Applicants should expect to talk about favorite fashions and current styles stores sell. Interviewers may feel reassured by applicants that attend the interview wearing an outfit or accessories from the store.
BCBG Sales Associate Interview Video
Video Transcript
Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
BCBG Employee: So, I worked at BCBG, and I was a sales associate there. Basic duties were that I would check the inventory whenever we got new shipments in. I would make sure that any item we had would come in all the sizes on the racks, and if anyone needed help with anything or couldn’t find their size, I’d go to the back and find it. Or, if someone was looking for a dress, I would try to complete their outfit. So, I was pretty much just trying to make sure everyone was happy when they walk in the store.
Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
BCBG Employee: It was friendly. There was a little bit of friendly competition, because at the same time, everyone working the floor is trying to get the commission. So, you were friends with each other, but at the same time, you wanted to be aware when the customer came in that you were the first one to grab them.
Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
BCBG Employee: So, the application process was just like a two-page application. Then afterwards, you came in for an interview. Then after the interview, they would call you back. If they called you back, they would do a one-day trial, and you would work the floor with them. You weren’t paid for that day, because it was still part of the interview process. Then after that, if they wanted you, they would hire you.
Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
BCBG Employee: They wanted to know what retail experience I had, and also how I thought I would deal with customers. How I would deal with the other people I was working with, if I thought that any issue would arise with other people, how I would go about and deal with it, because it is a competitive environment. So, they wanted to make sure I wasn’t some catty person, or I would make a big fuss out of something. But, those were a few of the questions they asked.
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
BCBG Employee: I’d say to definitely be really friendly with them, and also show them that you are able to work in a sales-type of position, because they want to make sure at the same time, not that you’re just friendly, that you know how to get not just one item from their store, but maybe 10 different items to that customer. They want to know if someone is coming in for a pair of shoes, that you sell them a hat, a dress, bracelets, everything. So, just be a very good, friendly person, and also be good at sales.
