Video Transcript

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Best Buy Electronics Salesman: At Best Buy, I was in electronic sales. Basically, just helping customers decide what software or hardware they wanted for their computers, printers, things of that nature, accessories, games. And that was basically the gist of the job title and position.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Best Buy Electronics Salesman: It was real interactive – a lot of people, a lot of traffic on a day-to-day basis. It was retail. I’m in a retail environment. You can imagine just a lot of shoppers, especially during peak season, holidays, things of that nature.

Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee.
Best Buy Electronics Salesman: I was to be on time. I mean you just pretty much own the floor as a sales rep interacting with people, making sure nobody is without assistance if they need it. Just up-selling merchandise, things that maybe customers can need. Suggest of sale was the big thing; so, just remain active from the time you get there until the time you leave.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Best Buy Electronics Salesman: I filled out the application in store. There were two interviews. One with the – I don’t know, it was a supervisor – and then one with the general manager. Basically, both interviews were exactly the same. If I had to say, I think they were just looking for people who seem to have the type of personality that was outgoing and friendly to cater to the customers.

Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Best Buy Electronics Salesman: They didn’t seem to be as interested in my job history. Most people want to know if you have experience related to working in a particular company, but it was more personality questions. Questions that required you to go in-depth about how you feel about working with people, working in that type of environment and if you think that it would be something that will suit you and your personality.

Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?
Best Buy Electronics Salesman: It was an easy transition for me because I’m naturally friendly and warm and inviting. I’ve been told anyway. It was just… I mean, it was second nature to me. I think I was pretty much a natural.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Best Buy Electronics Salesman: Just be enthusiastic. Show a lot of interest in the position because, obviously, if you go to work and you bring your problems… everybody has problems. If you bring it into the work atmosphere, it’s going to show. You have to be able to separate your home life from work and be the friendly associate that you know they want you to be while you’re wearing the Best Buy uniform.

Best Buy Sales Associate: I was a sales associate. What I would have to do is I would have to stand by a section, like a TV section, and look for employees that need help asking what they want and look around to see if anyone needs help.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Best Buy Sales Associate: The work environment was actually very laid back and chill. It got hectic at times, like during the holiday times or weekends it would be very busy, but mostly on weekdays or anything it was very laid back.

Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?
Best Buy Sales Associate: My favorite part was probably the deals that we got on most of the electronics and stuff. Actually I like learning about technology, too. You don’t need to know too much about it, but you learn a lot more than you knew before.

Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee.
Best Buy Sales Associate: A typical work day is you come in, you go to the break room, you talk to who ever’s there. You go out to your section or wherever, you switch around sometimes. Oh, and they started off with me talking about myself, they wanted to know who I was too.

Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Best Buy Sales Associate: I remember them asking me about a situation about you knew you were right about a certain situation but the customer was complaining about it and you have to go towards his side and tell him or her that they’re right during that instance. Customer’s kind of always right.
