Big Boy Interview Questions & Tips

How to Get a Job at Big Boy

The Frisch's Big Boy job interview finds out if an applicant lives up to the high standards of customer service the fast food restaurant chain encourages. In the hiring process, restaurant personnel look for employees to carry on the rich heritage of providing good food and service and building relationships with customers and fellow team members.

Focus on Company Culture

Workers should keep the company values in mind, as potential employees regularly answer questions related to personality, customer-related scenarios, work ethics, and job histories. Experience in the food service industry serves as an advantage to obtaining employment.

Importance of Looking Presentable

Show up to Big Boy job interviews wearing proper attire. Although applicants do not need to appear too formal, looking clean, professional, and put-together remains vitally important.

Conducting Research and Showing Confidence

Before the interview, conduct some research on company history and get an idea of the culture the fast food chain promotes. Whether in the food service industry or not, come prepared to relay job history and competency in working with people. Having specific examples of strengths and weaknesses reveals a healthy level of self-awareness, which is a desirable trait in a crew member. Don't shy away from asking questions about working at Big Boy throughout the interview process. Follow up with a manager or hiring representative several days after the interview.

Video Transcript

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Big Boy Server: I was a server and I pretty much provided customer service, served food, and greeted people most of the time.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Big Boy Server: It was really friendly. Everyone’s kind of just friends there and we all … I mean, there’s a lot of people that work there. It’s like kind of crowded sometimes, the amount of employees there. It’s kind of busy but we have so many customers that we can just give to other employees that it doesn’t matter that … You get a certain amount.

Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?
Big Boy Server: Yeah, it’s a really friendly work environment. There’s discounted food about 40%, so that’s pretty nice.

Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee.
Big Boy Server: Get in, clock in, and then start serving tables. It depends, you can wait sometimes, it depends on the day. If it’s a weekday, it’s kind of slow, weekends, obviously busy.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Big Boy Server: They gave me an application, like a paper, and then if they’re interested they call you within 2 weeks. Then you get interviewed, basic interview with basic questions.

Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Big Boy Server: They were really generic. They’re like “Tell me a little bit about yourself. Where do you go to school, what your schedule’s like, what hours are you free.”

Interviewer: How were you notified that you received the job?
Big Boy Server: They called me. It took about maybe 3 weeks at most.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Big Boy Server: It’s a very good entry-level job. It’s for people that probably don’t usually, or haven’t worked before at any other career. You don’t really need job experience to go there.
