BJ’s Wholesale Club Interview Questions & Tips

How to Get a Job at BJ's Wholesale Club

BJ's Wholesale Club looks for friendly, truthful applicants to join the team. Anyone seeking employment with the membership-only retailer needs to successfully complete the standard interview process. The interview process typically consists of a 1:1 interview administered by a hiring manager. Select positions require applicants to go through panel interviews or submit to background tests and drug screening. After completion of interviewing and testing, hiring managers usually take about three to five days to contact successful applicants about job offers.

Typical Interview Questions and Hiring Processes

Anyone applying for entry-level store jobs , such as cashier, stocker, or clerk, typically participates in a single interview. Applicants generally answer questions about work experience, job skills, and ability to work as part of a team. Some general inquiries candidates need to answer include: "Can you tell me about yourself?", and "Why did you choose BJ's Wholesale Club?" Some candidates may need to respond to ethical questions, like: "You find $5 on the ground at work. What do you do?" Applicants applying for cashier jobs may need to take assessments testing basic math skills.

Hiring Practices for Aspiring Managers

Management job hopefuls with BJ's Wholesale Club tend to go through multiple rounds of interviews. Job hopefuls typically answer behavioral questions regarding customer care and employee protocol. Common management interview questions include: "What would you do if a customer was unhappy?", "Can you tell me about a time when you had to take responsibility for a mistake?", and "What would be your top priority if we hired you today?" Committed to creating a steady transition into available jobs, BJ's Wholesale Club often poses questions to gauge how well candidates could adapt to new positions. Aspiring managers may need to respond to the following queries: "Can you please describe the best and worst store managers you ever worked for?" and "What type of training would you need to be up to speed for the job?"

What to Wear and How to Act During BJ's Wholesale Club Interviews

Go into the BJ's interview dressed in business-casual attire. Exhibit confidence by offering a firm handshake to the interviewer and sit upright in good posture. Before answering any question, take some time to consider your response and then provide a concise, well-thought-out reply. Show a positive attitude throughout the entire interview process. Hiring managers also use availability as an important factor in choosing new store associates. If possible, demonstrate the ability to work nights and weekends. To show added interest, call a few days after your last interview and inquire about hiring status.

BJ’s Wholesale Club Cashier Interview Video

Video Transcript

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
BJ’s Wholesale Club Cashier: I was a cashier at BJ’s Wholesale and I pretty much just was a cashier. I would ring up people and then I would clean up maybe after, but that wasn’t a major responsibility I had.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
BJ’s Wholesale Club Cashier: It was pretty good. It was relaxed. My manager was really cool. The people there were all right. I was a teenager at the time so it was a good high school job. I worked part time and it was a good high school job, I can’t complain.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
BJ’s Wholesale Club Cashier: It was about three days, I met with the manager one day and then had an interview with him maybe in three days, and then from there it was about two days I started working. There was an interview, they asked just like personal questions and just kind of get a feeling what kind of person I am.

Interviewer: How were you notified that you received the job?
BJ’s Wholesale Club Cashier: I applied at the actual store and then I just kept on biting like, hey, hey, hey, and then eventually they called me back.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
BJ’s Wholesale Club Cashier: If you want to get hired, bug them, just like anywhere, especially if it’s just like a cashier job. Sometimes if they’re not short staffed they’re not really going to be pushing for something, but if they’re hiring just keep on nagging them and you should be able to get it.
