Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties?
Bob Evans Hostess: I was a hostess. So I sat people, I was in charge of carry out, like getting the meals ready, and then checking people out as well when they were done eating.
Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Bob Evans Hostess: It was very positive. So I worked with some friends from high school and it was in my local town, so I knew some people already. It was a good work environment between like the back staff, the people that I worked with, everyone was very responsive to.
Not saying that very well. Everyone worked well together doing their own job when that job was needed to help other people. So if we needed a meal ready, we were very able to talk to the back staff and have them get that ready. If we had just sat somebody we would let the servers know and it was a very good work environment. All the pieces worked together that way.
Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?
Bob Evans Hostess: My favorite part was definitely getting the carry out orders ready, because I liked just having like the check sheet and getting everything checked off, that it was in the bag. So yeah.
Interviewer: Please describe the application and interview process.
Bob Evans Hostess: I went into the location and I got an application just straight from them, turned that in. And then I did have to give a follow up call. But after I gave a follow-up call, which I do recommend doing, then I came in for an interview and from there basically got hired on the spot and talked about hours from there.
Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Bob Evans Hostess: They always ask your best trait, your worst trait, hours available, your past work experience, what you’re looking for. They like to flip it back on you. So I always recommend being prepared for that part.
Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?
Bob Evans Hostess: I’d say leadership skills, for sure. And during the interview I was very outgoing from the beginning and I came in, it wasn’t my first job, so I came in knowing what to expect from the interview. So I think just that confidence and also leadership skills that I portrayed.
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Bob Evans Hostess: I just say be confident in your answers to basic interview questions like that. From there, my management made it very easy to learn the job. So I say for success, just be confident in your interview skills and confident in what you’re looking for from them. Come prepared with questions. So really just success up front and you can always learn from there.

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Bob Evans Hostess: I was a hostess, so I would come in around nine in the morning, because I worked a swing shift from 9 to 5, and I would seat people, clean tables occasionally if they were backed up, and just do cash drawer and refilling stock.
Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Bob Evans Hostess: The atmosphere was pretty good. The customers were generally really nice. There was a couple old people who were regulars who yoo see every day and actually form a relationship with, and then the employees really great. The waiters would always joke around and they were on rotation, so you got to know all of them really well.
Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?
Bob Evans Hostess: I liked that I got to work eight hours a day, and that it was really quick to find a job there. I found it, applied, and was hired within a week.
Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee.
Bob Evans Hostess: Come in, clock in, and fill your drawer with cash and then you just seat people and basically stand at a podium for most of the day. From 2 to 5, it’s really slow and you don’t really do much.
Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Bob Evans Hostess: The application is just a two-page application: just basic work experience, schooling, just a standard application. Then, interviews took about 20 minutes. They asked you why you were here, what you want out of the job, if you have any previous work experience, anything with drugs. They also asked if you had reliable transportation, which was a big thing with them, because they had problems in the past with people not being able to get work.
Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?
Bob Evans Hostess: I think because I had unlimited availability, so I could work 40 hours a week because I wasn’t in school at the time.
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Bob Evans Hostess: Smile a lot and be very outgoing. They like people who can sell their product, because they are business, and that’s probably generally how most businesses are, especially in food service.
