Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Chipotle Crew Member: I was a line worker at Chipotle. There were several duties; you could be in the meat portion, you actually distribute the meat and beans, or you could be in the tortilla machine, where you press the tortillas and get them ready, or you could be the sauce person, or the burrito roller. I was actually good at all the duties you had there, I was all across the line, but I was also in the back prepping the food as well. With that, you’re expected to wash the food for cooking, as well. It could get crazy when we got a little busy.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Chipotle Crew Member: It was a very fast-paced atmosphere. There wasn’t one specific duty you would do, you try to combine everyone together, and work as a team as I like to say. The customers are very genuine, because they just want their food, and if you serve your food how you are supposed to, they were happy when you greet them with small talk here and there, and just make them feel comfortable.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Chipotle Crew Member: Basic application on paper; I went there, and I had two interviews. I had the walk-in interview; I came in and talked to the manager, had a nice verbal conversation with her. Then I got to meet with the general manager, and she asked me in-depth questions about why I want to work at Chipotle, and just talk about Chipotle, a brand-new company, and how it’s expanding really quick, and how you can move up in the ranks because it’s fairly new.

Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Chipotle Crew Member: They asked why I wanted to work at Chipotle, since it’s my first job. It’s a very fast-paced environment, do you think you could handle it, and do you get stressed out easily, have you ever worked with food before, and general stuff about working with food.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Chipotle Crew Member: I would actually first say be ready to work in a fast-paced environment. It gets very hectic sometimes, but if you keep your composure and just work with everything, and just do as you’re told and everything will just come together. It’s a nice team effort there.

Chipotle Team Member: At Chipotle, I was just a normal team member. I cooked on the line a couple of times, but I basically just assembled the burritos and the burrito bowls and everything, got people what they needed. I didn’t really work the cashier stage that much.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Chipotle Team Member: That was another good environment. I didn’t know anybody when I started working at Chipotle, but it was a really fun place to work. The manager was another really good manager, laid back, but also very business-oriented, which is really good, you want a responsible boss, obviously, but also one who is just nice to be around. Makes you enjoy your job.

Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?
Chipotle Team Member: Probably the people, again. I just really like being around people, and another business, which when you get to actually talk to people, find out what kind of meat you want on this burrito. I like the personal interaction.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Chipotle Team Member: The application was pretty generic. There were a couple of more creative questions on the application, just about your ambitions and things like that. But it was basically, why do you want to work here at Chipotle, what previous work experience do you have, especially with the cooking aspect – if you have ever cooked before, which I hadn’t. But, they still let me try, so that was fun. Just very basic.

Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Chipotle Team Member: They asked about my different interests, what were my passions, what I liked doing. They asked what sort of work I was considering doing in the future. Some personality questions, things like that.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Chipotle Team Member: If you think you would totally hate it, don’t do it, because you’re not going to have fun, you’re not going to enjoy it, and you’re going to make it not a good environment for anybody that’s working there. So, if you want to work there, then awesome, apply and express your interest in working at Chipotle in your application, and during your interview, be professional and friendly. People really respond well to really friendly and responsible people. It’s that easy.

Chipotle Crew Member: So, I was a crew member. I worked on the line, I made orders, I worked the cash register, I would bus the tables, offer great customer service.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Chipotle Crew Member: It was very lively. We always had to have a smile on our faces. We would always greet as many customers as we could, like scream at them, “Hey, hello,” as soon as they walked through the door. It was always really crowded, especially in the afternoon and the evenings, so there would always be a lot of people, always somebody to talk to.

Interviewer: Did you earn any benefits of other job perks?
Chipotle Crew Member: Every shift, if you worked five hours… if you worked four hours and 59 minutes, you got a 10-minute break. If you worked five hours, you got a 30-minute break. They fed us for free. Then, if we wanted an extra meal, it was half off.

Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee.
Chipotle Crew Member: It depends on if you’re opening or if you’re closing. If you open, you have to get there at around 7am, then I would make chips, people would prep. Chips are really fun. You open, get everything ready. If you come in the middle of the day, you just come in, get on the line. The line is where you make the food, or you just do whatever it is they tell you to do. If we close, we would have to wrap all the food up. We have to clean everything; we have to clean the bathrooms, clean the outside, we have to restock everything for the next morning.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Chipotle Crew Member: The application… actually, I got hired at a really good time. I had just called them and asked them if they were hiring, and they were like, “Yeah, come in for an interview.” So, I had an interview, they invited me for a second interview, and I actually did the application after I got the job, because you have to finish the application. I don’t know if that’s because they were desperate for people, or that’s just how it is, but it was really simple.

Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Chipotle Crew Member: They asked what I think of great customer service, what you think about doing things without being told, and they asked me about punctuality and any previous job experience. They didn’t ask me any questions out of the ordinary. Just typical interview questions.

Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?
Chipotle Crew Member: Definitely personality. If you show that you’re lively, you’re willing to not just work here to make some money but actually interact with the customers and develop. They focus a lot on development, and every so often managers would meet with every employee. If you show that you’re capable, if you show them that picking you is a worthwhile decision, and you’ll be there for a good amount of time.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Chipotle Crew Member: I would say honestly. Just make sure this is what you want to do, make sure you want to work here because from the outside looking in, it looks like a really fun job, but there are downsides. So, just keep that in mind if you want to work here, just like any food job when you’re working in food.
