Church’s Chicken Employee: I was fry cook. I’m the one that put the chicken in the hot grease.
Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Church’s Chicken Employee: It was a fast-paced job. You’ve got people coming in, and they want something hot to eat real fast. You add dropping the chicken into the hot grease. I’ve caught a lot of burns, but it was decent.
Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?
Church’s Chicken Employee: If we were slow, I would go out in the parking lot and pick up trash, stuff like that. I know a lot of the customers from the neighborhood. I grew to know them, because I didn’t stay in the neighborhood. But once they started coming in there and sending their children in, I knew exactly what they wanted. So, it was nice.
Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Church’s Chicken Employee: My cousin was working at the company, and she took me up there. I talked to the manager, and the manager hired me right then and there, because she needed help. They had quick turnover – they couldn’t keep anybody. So, she hired me. I started that day.
Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Church’s Chicken Employee: Basically, they didn’t want to know anything. The only thing she wanted to make sure was could I make it to work on time and every day I was supposed to have been there. And I did.
Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?
Church’s Chicken Employee: A lot of people slack. I’m the kind of person that if it’s slow, I don’t like sitting around because that’s making my day go longer, so I get up and do something.
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Church’s Chicken Employee: It’s a good restaurant now. It’s a lot more modern, urban. I would really advise kids in high school to try and go there, build them some character in the workforce, and put a little money in their pocket.

Church’s Chicken Cashier: I got hired as working on the grill, which that consists of dropping chicken, doing corn, stuff like that. Then, I went from that to cashier. That consists of taking orders from the customers, running for other cashiers when I don’t have any orders of my own, and cleaning duties, like wiping off the counters, sweeping up around my area.
Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Church’s Chicken Cashier: I went in and I was a walk-in, because I had seen the sign on the door. So, I went in and talked to somebody. The manager told me to come back. I filled out the application, then I kept calling, and they finally gave me an interview. Then, I got the job.
Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Church’s Chicken Cashier: They wanted to know what other job experiences I had had. They wanted to know a little bit about myself, a little bit of my education, and basically that was it. It was really a simple application.
Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?
Church’s Chicken Cashier: I think I got the job because I was persistent. I kept calling, showing up. I said I’m coming to check in on my application. I think that’s one of the reasons why they might have hired me.
