Circle K Interview Questions & Tips

Where to Apply and How to Begin the Hiring Process

One of the top gas station and convenience store conglomerates in the industry, Circle K looks to hire job seekers into a variety of positions. Interested individuals may apply either online or in-person at a local store. Interviewers often conduct phone interviews, one-to-one interviews, and panel interviews to screen for new associates, with one-on-one interviews most used for entry-level applicants and panel interviews typically reserved for managerial roles in addition to 1:1 sessions. The hiring process often spans less than a week for entry-level positions and up to four weeks for managerial positions.

Skills Assessments and Interview Questions

Customer service representatives usually pass basic skills tests assessing general math and computer expertise relative to everyday job duties before attending face-to-face interviews. Common inquiries applicants encounter during 1:1 interviews include, "Do you work well in a team-oriented environment?" and "Do you consider yourself a people-person?" Candidates may meet with several different hiring personnel on different occasions before the hiring process is complete. Circle K generally conducts drug testing and background checks as part of the interview process, as well.

Special Considerations for Managers

For managerial applicants, the interview process may take three or four weeks to complete. Ranging in format from 1:1 conversations to panel sessions, candidates should expect to attend multiple interviews during the hiring process. Typical interview questions include, "Have you worked multiple shifts before?" and "How does your previous management experience inform the way you conduct yourself as a leader today?" Applicants should dress appropriately for the interview, wearing business attire like shirts and ties or professional dresses.

Do I Need Experience?

While entry-level positions do not usually necessitate previous experience in the retail industry, applicants who demonstrate knowledge of customer care techniques, retail sales, and marketing may impress hiring personnel and garner additional hiring review. Speak to relevant work experiences when responding to interview questions. Job seekers may need to check back frequently with the company to ensure confirmation of employment if the gas station and convenience industry firm does not tender an offer at the final interview.

Circle K Cashier Interview Video

Video Transcript

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.

Circle K Cashier: I do one duty and it’s cashiering, that’s pretty much all I do there, and it’s the primary duty, is just checking out people who buy gas, yeah.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Circle K Cashier: Yeah, it’s actually, it’s really relaxed, it’s a small store so there’s not much to do, and pretty much all you do is ring people out, and just keep the shelves stocked. It’s pretty straightforward.

Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?
Circle K Cashier: I actually got the job through a friend, and they actually schedule me to work with my friend, so it’s actually very nice to just, like, it doesn’t feel like I’m working. I’m just hanging out with some friends, it’s just a very laid back environment actually. And just, get to meet the people that come in every day, most of the store’s regulars. So, it’s just a really relaxed shift, it’s eight hours, which is pretty long, but it goes by really fast.

Interviewer: Please describe the application and interview process.
Circle K Cashier: Yeah, so I found it online too, but it was through a friend, but they directed me to where I can apply and their website. And I just put in the store number, and I just applied there with my resume, and set up an interview pretty soon after they called me. They also had applications in the store that you can pick up, which is pretty easy as well, it’s just taking out the internet part, and pretty much, that’s the two ways I know, how I applied and how you can apply. That’s pretty much it.

Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Circle K Cashier: Yeah, the interview was pretty much, basically, I think they needed workers, so they kind of knew I was going to get hired, and I feel that’s how most gas stations will hire you, they just need people to work as soon as possible. So, they were basically asking me if I had experience with lottery, which I didn’t, they were asking me if I had experience with cashiering, which I did, and they were asking me if I had experience working at a gas station, which I did not. And, that’s pretty much all they wanted to know, and they were really helpful with training me on those two things, which, I didn’t know how it was supposed to go.

Interviewer: How were you notified that you received the job?
Circle K Cashier: They pretty much told me that I got it as soon as I was done interviewing, and they just were wondering what my availability was for scheduling purposes, and I got scheduled the next week pretty much, pretty quick.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Circle K Cashier: I guess the advice would just be to apply and see how it goes. They’re really helpful with working around your schedule, I think it’s a great second job, and I think it’s a great job to have while you’re going to school, because they’ll just schedule you whenever you can work, pretty much. And, I think the interview is totally not intimidating to interview there, and I know people maybe have some biases about working in a gas station, but it’s really laid back, and I think it’s fun to just work there, and it’s really relaxed.
