Video Transcript

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Cold Stone Creamery Team Member: So primarily in Cold Stone, I was just supposed to serve ice cream, to be very general about it. You’re supposed to greet customers, of course, and know the different sizes of cones and different items they can get, and of course do regular cleanup.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Cold Stone Creamery Team Member: Work environment was really friendly. It was actually one of my favorite jobs, honestly. It was because you got to interact with different people all the time, and your coworkers and you are always trying to make different ways of making the job fun.

Interviewer: Please describe the application and interview process.
Cold Stone Creamery Team Member: So the application process was simply just to put in your application. I did through in-store, which was the easiest way, and get a call, and luckily for me, the guy who does the interviews was right there, so we were able to do that right away. And I was hired, I believe, less than a week later.

Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Cold Stone Creamery Team Member: They mainly asked what was my experience before with fast food in general, and if I have done Cold Stone before.

Interviewer: How were you notified that you received the job?
Cold Stone Creamery Team Member: They notified me by call.

Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?
Cold Stone Creamery Team Member: I believe it was that I had previous food experience before.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Cold Stone Creamery Team Member: Definitely be creative and outgoing, and definitely reach out to the customers. That’s always a good start with that job, and make it your own. Don’t always have to necessarily go with the policy.

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Cold Stone Creamery Team Member: At Cold Stone Creamery, I was called a crew member, and so under my job title, what I would was I would help prepare the ice cream I was going to give the customers, as well as, since I had been there for about three years, I was also helping train new crew members who came in. Store upkeep kind of things, made sure the store looked sanitized, washed things down when I was not helping a customer, and that was about it.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Cold Stone Creamery Team Member: The work environment was very friendly. I would say it was upbeat, because that was what we prided ourselves on, having that upbeat, kind of fun environment for people to enjoy having ice cream, as opposed to just a regular place you would get ice cream where they don’t sing and do tricks and stuff, so it was cool.

Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee.
Cold Stone Creamery Team Member: A typical day at Cold stone was; I would walk in and I would check myself in at the monitor, first at the cashier, then from there, it was just a manner of if I thought I saw customers, I would make sure that your hat, apron is on and wash your hands, then go ahead and serve the customers, because those are usually the first priority. If there are no customers, you would make sure the ice cream was stocked in the display box, and you also try to make sure that there wasn’t any extra ice cream. Try to make sure it looks nice. Other than that, if you had a huge rush, maybe it calmed down, you would try to sweep up around the store, make sure the bathroom is stocked and things like that. If you worked a closing shift, you would make sure the bathroom is cleaned out, make sure the lobby’s cleaned out, roll up rugs and things like that, obviously depending on location. But, other than that, it was just a lot of scooping and mixing ice cream during the normal business hours.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Cold Stone Creamery Team Member: For Cold Stone Creamery, they kind of did a little bit different. It was my first job I had ever worked at, so I was thinking I would have more of a standard interview process, maybe with me and one other person. But, actually you are in a room of thirty people there in the room with you, and about five or six large tables. Then you have almost a panel of managers or staff that are higher up and things like that. You were asked, they weren’t random questions, but they were kind of more questions about spontaneity, so “This is the joke round,” or “This is the talent round,” so it was almost more like an audition-style setup and you had a portion in which you did your own personal talent, you had a portion in which you explained who you were, what your background was, and the third round, you were actually collaborating with a team of other people trying out or trying to get the job, and you were trying to make a song and dance about one of the ice creams, to see if you worked with a team, so it was different.

Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?
Cold Stone Creamery Team Member: When I had my interview at the time, I really wanted a job because I really wanted to make money, so I actually had a friend who had gone through the process for Cold Stone, and they told me that there was a portion in which you would have a talent or something like that, and I like to sing and stuff like that, so I actually made a song for ice cream, so I think I got set apart. I was told later that I was set apart because I created my own original song for the store to use, and they did use it later, so it was kind of cool. Other than that, I tried to be really outgoing.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Cold Stone Creamery Team Member: I would tell somebody who’s looking for a job with Cold Stone Creamery to be that bubbly, friendly person. It’s an experience where you can get away with being less enthusiastic, but it makes your job easier if you are, because a lot of people at the store location really likes, is to have people who are wanting to go to work, not just pretending they want to go to work and help people, so definitely try and work on people skills, because it’s very customer service based. Then, other than that, just have fun with it.

Cold Stone Creamery Shift Leader Interview Video

Video Transcript

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Cold Stone Creamery Shift Leader: As a shift leader, my duties are the same as a crew member, except I oversee the staff on particular shifts from five to close, maybe open to noon, or stuff like that. My main duties were basically opening, closing, making sure that everything was taken care of after the store was closed like sweeping the floor, washing the dishes. Each crew member has an assigned job, but my duty is to make sure each job is done efficiently and effectively.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Cold Stone Creamery Shift Leader: The work environment kind of depended on the time of year. Starting from maybe February until the beginning of September, that’s when the summertime rush is. Everyday it’s constant movement. It’s constant washing dishes to come back out and take care of another customer. You’re on your feet a lot, but it’s good because the people in the community I was in, they were great. It’s a fun job.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Cold Stone Creamery Shift Leader: For me, I came early, before the store opened. I got an application. When I filled out the application, it was basically informational background stuff like name, date, date of birth, and stuff like that. On the application they had basic math. On the application they had different scenarios for you to fill out to see what you would do in certain situations, stuff like past job history, and stuff like that.

Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Cold Stone Creamery Shift Leader: When I was interviewed, I think that I was already hired before. I don’t know. I don’t want to say that arrogantly. Most of the interview process was her describing what my duties would be as a crew member, because that’s how I started off. She asked me stuff like, what am I doing with my life, where do I go to school, small stuff like that just to gauge where I am.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Cold Stone Creamery Shift Leader: Working at Cold Stone, you need to have a lot of patience because you have children that come in, and 90% of the people who come in to get ice cream don’t know what they want when they come in. It’s your job to communicate what you guys have, how stuff is done, and how the order’s prepared. If you don’t really like people or standing on your feet all day, I don’t think there’s a job for you.
