DHL Interview Questions & Tips

How to Get a Job at DHL

DHL operates as an internationally acclaimed logistics and shipping company present in more than 220 countries. The international company extends entry-level and management job opportunities for career hunters in both local and corporate settings. Job seekers often find openings on the company website or other employment databases and apply online, in-person, or through employee referrals. The delivery company administers streamlined interview processes. Some positions require applicants to take personality and skills assessments at the onset of the hiring process. Human resource representatives usually commence the interview process by conducting phone interviews with eligible candidates, generally within a week or two of receiving and reviewing hiring requests.

Proper Preparation

Selected candidates typically meet with hiring managers and human resource representatives at a DHL location after completing phone interviews. Dress either business-casual or more formally, depending on the position desired. Arrive on time for all job interviews, and bring any necessary certification documents as well as several forms of identification. Previous work history, associated experience, and availability also prove common topics broached during preliminary interview sessions.

Drawing From Previous Experience

The final step of the DHL interview process usually includes a meeting with a supervisor or director at the location of desired employment. Interviewers may outline job duties and ask more practical questions related to the position during the last meeting. Regardless of the job title, the international shipping and delivery company wants all applicants to excel in customer service. Demonstrate excellent communication skills when answering interview questions and give examples from previous employment to highlight expertise when possible.

Specialized Job Requirements

Delivery and warehouse applicants must be able to lift between 40 and 70 pounds on a regular basis. Driver applicants must possess valid commercial and regular driver's licenses. Candidates interviewing for delivery jobs must also boast clean driving records. Criminal background inspections and drug tests prove normal formalities during the DHL hiring process, as well.

DHL Dock Worker Interview Video

Video Transcript

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
DHL Dock Worker: I’m a casual associate with DHL. Right now my job is to basically move boxes from a container on to a conveyor belt and the containers, they usually move from the ball deck to a lift that will come up to our conveyor belt area.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
DHL Dock Worker: It’s pretty much a workhouse environment, or warehouse I should say. There’s a few forklifts running around and usually a lot of ambient noise. You are required to wear a high visibility jacket, which they’ll give to you.

Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?
DHL Dock Worker: I guess, well since I am a casual, I guess the part time work, they are fairly flexible as far as work schedule. Right now I’m signed up for just working on Sundays and if I can’t make one Sunday, I’ll just text my supervisor “Hey I can’t make this Sunday.” That’s pretty much all I need to say. I can work extra days if I want to.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
DHL Dock Worker: Pretty much all of your standard paperwork, of course. I guess something else maybe a little more unique for this is that they also require that you be able to life a 50 pound box. Other than that, there’s not really much else.

Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
DHL Dock Worker: Probably your standard, if I remember, it’s probably your standard run-of-the-mill questions like “Why do you want to work for us?” and so on. I guess they also had the whole section about the drug addiction rate … Not the drug addiction rate but if you have a problem with substance abuse, then they want to help you out with that.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
DHL Dock Worker: I would talk a little bit more about the schedule. Usually on Sundays it’s during the day but during your weekdays, Monday through Friday, it’s overnight. Usually when I would work there during the week, if I wanted to work extra days, I would usually work from midnight to five in the morning.
