Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Family Dollar Cashier: At Family Dollar, I was a cashier. Basically, my primary duties were to check out my customers, and we did restocking the shelves and took in the trucks, as well. We did it all.
Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Family Dollar Cashier: It was pretty calm and quiet and fun. It was me and two other girls, and we all just hung out together. We hung out together at work and hung out together afterward. We had a pretty cool environment. Our manager… she was a cool lady, too.
Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee.
Family Dollar Cashier: Well, depending on the time of the month, it could be extremely slow where we wouldn’t even be at the register much. We were just constantly backing stuff and restocking. Or it could be one of those days where it’s just… you have people coming in and buying just everything, from holiday stuff to household supplies. So, it fluctuated, basically.
Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Family Dollar Cashier: That interview process was really simple because I was in school at the time. Well, I had just finished school, and I was getting ready to go. I was just moving in the area. So, when I went in for the interview, basically it was just casual dress, and she interviewed me at the register. She asked me if I was able to do basic math: count, use a calculator, and things like that.
Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Family Dollar Cashier: The questions were, “What is my work history?”, which I didn’t have at the time because I had just finished school, and, like I said, if you could use a calculator, can you do basic math, read and write English. Those were some of the basic ones.
Interviewer: What set you apart from the other candidates?
Family Dollar Cashier: I believe it was my personality and my willingness to always want to help somebody.
