Giant Eagle Utility Clerk Interview Video
Video Transcript
Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Giant Eagle Utility Clerk: My job title is utility clerk, but we basically call it curbside, yeah. What basically happens is there’s an app, and there’s also a website that explains everything. But the app, you go on the app and you order basically whatever groceries you want. It can be food, batteries, front check line stuff like candy, and they also have prepped foods and snacks too. There’s also a liquor agency and a wine one too.
Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Giant Eagle Utility Clerk: It’s friendly. There’s a lot of talking and you’re free to talk however you want, and they’re really nice there too.
Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?
Giant Eagle Utility Clerk: Ooh, my favorite part is that you’re able to move a lot, because you’re walking and pushing the cart and grabbing stuff. And so you basically are always doing something. In my previous job, which was a library, I didn’t like that sitting down and not being able to do whatever I like. I don’t know, it just wasn’t for me.
Interviewer: Please describe the application and interview process.
Giant Eagle Utility Clerk: So the application process, it was pretty simple. It started with your previous employers. Could you contact them? Just real simple application, and then you said…
Interviewer: The interview process too.
Giant Eagle Utility Clerk: The interview process. She asked me, my manager asked me, a lot of questions about my previous job and potential things that could have happened and how I could work through it, and how that would apply with, I guess, this job too. So she asked me, one question was, let me think. She said explain a time where you were frustrated and you didn’t know what to do, what did you do at the workplace to resolve the issue? And I basically said that I sat down and thought about the situation, and just went through it, I wrote down what to do, and I also had a to do list for my old job, because there was a lot of stuff you had to do just in general, and yeah, I made it to do list for this job too because there’s a lot of duties on it for it.
Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Giant Eagle Utility Clerk: She asked a really good one. I didn’t even consider. It was, let’s say you had an angry customer, how would you deal with the situation? And I basically just said that I would, not tell them to stop what they’re doing, but to try to cooperate with me and help me through the situation the best way I could. And how I could also help them with the situation the best I could. And yeah.
Interviewer: How were you notified that you received the job?
Giant Eagle Utility Clerk: When they decided to contact me, it was a week later. I accidentally missed the call because I thought it was different, like the numbers come up and you don’t know what the number is. So I had basically been answering all the calls, and I don’t know when they called me, but I missed it. So I called them about three days later and they said they called me, and I was surprised because I thought I was on top of it. I guess I missed it.
Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?
Giant Eagle Utility Clerk: For sure that I was well-dressed. I spoke clearly, and I was able to answer all the questions without hesitation. So I think, because I did a lot of studying before the interview process, and I was aware of the questions they were going to ask because I looked on this one website where it basically listed like a whole lot of questions, and just be ready for all of them. So I was ready for it. I do what I had to do.
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Giant Eagle Utility Clerk: Don’t be intimidated. It’s a lot of things you could do there, but if you can find what you think is your niche. Is that how you say it? Yeah, your niche. Then you go for it and be confident. Speak your mind, speak freely, and show your intelligence during the interview too. Use a lot of big words.

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Giant Eagle Stock Clerk: At Giant Eagle, I stocked. I was the grocery stock person. In that department, we have various aisles, where we just put up stuff and keep it straight and stuff like that.
Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Giant Eagle Stock Clerk: It’s really good. I like it. It’s really clean, it’s really open, the people are friendly.
Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?
Giant Eagle Stock Clerk: My favorite part about working there is probably my coworkers because we’re really close and we talk a lot.
Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee.
Giant Eagle Stock Clerk: Typical workday… you go in, depending if we start around two, we face up everything and make it look good for the customers. Then, we start on the regular order, then put up everything. Then, depending on the night, I might order at the end of the night, but it depends on random stuff.
Interviewer: What should an applicant wear to the interview?
Giant Eagle Stock Clerk: Nothing really dressy. Khakis and a polo is good for that because it’s not a really major job. They know it. It’s like your first job.
Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Giant Eagle Stock Clerk: Back when I got hired, which was four years ago, the application was over the phone. Now, it’s online, so I don’t really know what the difference is now. But it was really easy and good. When I got hired, they didn’t have anything open, so I had to continuously call them, which was of my own regard – they didn’t tell me to – just keep waiting until they had something open.
Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Giant Eagle Stock Clerk: For that interview, it was: “What previous experience do you have, if any?”, “How can you be fit for this job”, “What do you think is involved with it?”, stuff like that.
Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?
Giant Eagle Stock Clerk: That I had previous work experience and that I was also trying really hard to get the job. So, they noticed that I was trying and not just trying to get some random job.
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Giant Eagle Stock Clerk: My advice would be to be ready to set yourself apart from everyone. Come in swinging. You want to be better than everyone else, not like cocky-wise, but try to be better.
