Other Questions to Expect

Many questions featured during the job interview are similar to other companies in the retail industry. Customer service and treatment sits at the forefront of many questions.

Interviewees must use this time to demonstrate their social skills and conflict resolution ability.   Expect phrases like:

Due to the specialized nature of GNC, company applicants may be asked about their knowledge of various vitamins, powders, supplements, and other fitness topics.

Interview Process

Fitness-focused individuals may find plenty of employment opportunities at GNC stores. Short for General Nutrition Corporation, the company employs more than 13,000 workers across the country, with opportunities for both part-time and full-time workers. Worthy applicants may be eligible to participate in job interviews. Well-prepared and confident job candidates often perform well during the interview process. As much as the fitness retailer prides itself on being a casual and friendly environment, applicants should exhibit complete professionalism and courtesy during the interview.

On-the-Spot Interviews Are Common

Most entry-level applicants with GNC typically undergo a single one-on-one job interview with a store manager. Senior individuals have considerable experience looking for the best qualities desired from employees. Usually, after submitting all employment forms, managers may conduct the interview on the spot. Otherwise, applicants should expect to wait around three to five days to hear from the company. Upon contact, job hopefuls should attend the interview on time, dressed properly, and confident.

Research the Company and the Industry

While the General Nutrition Center interview involves no overly tough or difficult questions, applicants must prepare for the occasion properly. Reviewing personal work history and skills may give any applicant an edge over the competition.

The health-centered retail company often prefers active and enthusiastic staff members that create a better environment for customers as well as coworkers. Show enthusiasm by speaking clearly, using active language, keeping proper posture, and maintaining eye contact.

Following interviews, feel free to ask questions regarding the next steps of the hiring process.

GNC Cashier Interview Video

Video Transcript

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
GNC Cashier: I was a cashier. Mostly what I did was, I’d give out the orders obviously, and then you had to clean and help stock on certain days and do inventory. That was about it.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
GNC Cashier: We had kind of a small staff, it was four or five people maybe. It was a pretty relaxing environment. People come in. You have regulars and then you have some people you help around. It’s a pretty calm work environment.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
GNC Cashier: They have an online application. You just go to the GNC general website. You go to careers at the bottom.

Basically it allows you to find stores within a certain radius, whatever you click at. It will send the application out to all the stores in that radius. You can choose a specific store you want. Then after that it was a pretty general application and they’ll call you back pretty soon.

Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
GNC Cashier: There was a lot of questions about my personal health and then how I felt about fitness in general because they are a supplement company. They also asked me how educated I was about the products. They didn’t expect me to know everything. They just wanted to get the general sense of different proteins or different brands and if not they told me that they could just educate me on all the brands.

Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?
GNC Cashier: I think it was the fact I was into a lot of sports and I was pretty active at the time. They allowed people to come in, and they’d seen that I knew about fitness. It just helped me relate more to the people that were coming in the store.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
GNC Cashier: I would say don’t get discouraged if no positions are open in stores around you. I know it took a while but eventually I noticed positions open up in different stores and eventually that one opened up. If you have time and you can wait then it’s a good job to have.

GNC Sales Associate Interview Video

Video Transcript

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
GNC Sales Associate: I was a sales associate and pretty much the store I was in was pretty dead. If no one was in the store, just maintain a clean work environment and restock the shelves.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
GNC Sales Associate: Very, very slow paced. Where I was. Real calm, not very taxing.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
GNC Sales Associate: I applied probably the beginning of July. I actually didn’t hear back, actually I’d say mid-June and I didn’t hear back until almost the end of July.

It took about a month and a half for me to hear a call back.

Once I did get a call I had an informal interview with just the store manager. That was basically for him to tell his manager that he had met me and I was fine to go through the hiring process.

After I met with him I had a formal interview with the area manager. That was where you talk about your past experience, like, “Tell me about a time you’ve overcome something.” After that I was hired on and went through the training process.

Interviewer: How were you notified that you received the job?
GNC Sales Associate: They called me on the phone, the store manager called me on the phone and it took about a month and a half, maybe two months.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
GNC Sales Associate: I guess just be patient. It was a pretty good job, I just had something that was better than came along. It was commissioned based and pretty easy work.
