Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Gordon Food Services Sales Associate: I was a sales associate there. Basically, what we did is you would come in and you would either run a cash register or they would have you stock shelves that day. It would just be up to who else was there. The manager would come and they would be like, “We need you on register today or we need you to stock the shelves.” That’s, basically, what we did.
Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Gordon Food Services Sales Associate: It was a great work environment. Everyone was really nice. They’re really supportive there. They help a lot with training and stuff.
Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?
Gordon Food Services Sales Associate: My favorite part was probably how nice everyone was because it was my first job, and I was nervous. They helped me with my training and stuff. It was a great first job to have, I thought.
Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee.
Gordon Food Services Sales Associate: A typical day, usually you would come in and either they would tell you what to do again. If you’re running the register it’d be a lot of interacting with the customers and taking their cash and telling them, “have a good day” and focusing on the customer service aspect. While you were stocking you would also focus on customer service but it was more freedom, I think. You weren’t trapped behind the register. You could help people find stuff. That’s their big thing there is customer service.
Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Gordon Food Services Sales Associate: The application process was fairly easy. I walked in one day and I’m like, “Can I have an application?” They’re like, “It’s online.” I went to the website, I filled it out. It was probably two pages long, just a normal application. Then, the thing I found was a little weird was that I had three separate interviews to get the job. I had to do a first interview with one of the assistant managers. Then the two other assistant managers was the second interview. The store manager was the final interview. That’s how I got the job. You had to go through three interviews.
Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Gordon Food Services Sales Associate: Yeah, they had most of the normal questions that they ask like where do you go to school and stuff like that. Do you like it? They also had interesting questions like what is one of the most rewarding school projects or community projects that you’ve worked on, just seeing that you’re more well-rounded. They had some fairly simple questions.
Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?
Gordon Food Services Sales Associate: I think one of the things that set me apart was that I was really personable, and they liked me when I came in and interviewed with them. They said sometimes if they don’t like the person they don’t usually get too far in the interview process but I guess they liked me so I got the job eventually.
Interviewer: How were you notified that you received the job?
Gordon Food Services Sales Associate: They called me after the third interview probably either that same day or the next day. I found out fairly quick after the third one. After each of he preceding ones, the first couple, I found out that too.
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Gordon Food Services Sales Associate: If you want to work at Gordon Food Services I’d say you have to really like people and you have to be focused on customer service and making sure you put the customer first. Making sure you can do that because that’s their big thing there is customer service. That’s really what they look for.
