Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Hertz Rental Representative: At Hertz I started out as a rental rep. I actually moved my way up to Assistant Branch Manager under Hertz. My primary job responsibility was pretty much everything. It didn’t matter my level there, as a front-end clerk, Assistant Branch Manager, my responsibilities got more, but I did the same things. I washed cars, inventory as I moved up, also scheduling. Putting in… Managing, as well as Customer Service, as well as putting in times, putting in the time schedule as far as for the time cards. Counting the money at the end of the day. That was pretty much it, as well as capturing business. I’m forgetting a whole bunch of this stuff. Capturing business as well. Going out marketing and sales was obviously a huge part of it. Front end sales. Selling the extra services, extra insurance that goes along with renting cars. Things of that nature.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Hertz Rental Representative: Application process? There was a series of two interviews. Obviously the first one I applied online on the computer, crossed my fingers, hoped for a phone call back, got that and came in to a branch. I think I met with the City Manager. A Branch Manager at the beginning and then I met with a City Manager at the second interview. A private one-on-one interview in a small office. Ask you about yourself, tell her about yourself. Pretty open, candid conversations back and forth about where you want to be, how ambitious you are, where you see yourself in five years. That’s pretty much how the interview process went.

Interviewer: What should an applicant wear to the interview?
Hertz Rental Representative: I wore a shirt, a tie, looked … polished up my shoes. I looked as good as I could possibly, Sunday best, Easter Sunday best to be more specific. Groomed. Nicely shaven, more so than I am now. That’s about it.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Hertz Rental Representative: You need to be somebody that they want to hire. They don’t want you to be a sales clerk forever. They want you to move up so you need to be somebody that seems to be ambitious and want to move up, want to earn the company as much money as you possibly can and not settle for complacency. They want you to be the best at what you do. Not just for them, but for you as well. The more you do, the more responsibilities you have, the more money you can make. That’s the type of individual they’re looking for. Somebody that’s always striving for better.

    My interview tip for hertz is to be sure you have a clean driving record because you might have to move cars and if you are a terrible driver then they probably wouldn’t like that. I would also make sure to be neat and clean when and if you interview at hertz — don’t show up in ratty clothes.
