Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Home Depot Cashier: My job title was cashier, and my primary duties were to check people out. I mainly worked in the lumber section, so I would have to help people go find lumber, load it up, load their cars, things like that.
Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Home Depot Cashier: I liked the work environment. I thought it was great. I thought they were really involved with their employees. They made sure their employees were satisfied with their jobs and that everything the employee needed was there for them.
Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee.
Home Depot Cashier: I thought it was fun. You get to meet a lot of people. It’s always busy at Home Depot – everybody goes to Home Depot where I’m from – and when you get to talk to people on the job and it’s more social, to me it always seemed like a real social thing than work.
Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Home Depot Cashier: When I worked for them, the application was in person. You go in and turn it back into a manager. Then, you would get called back in for the interview. I interviewed with two different managers. Then, when they were hiring, we would all come in as a group for orientation, where we learn about the store, stuff like that.
Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Home Depot Cashier: Past job experience. I had to take a test to see if I could actually count money and stuff like that. Basic interview questions, just wanting to get to know who I am in a 10-minute timeframe.
Interviewer: What set you apart from the other candidates?
Home Depot Cashier: I always smile. I’m a happy person, and I think to be a cashier, that’s what they’re looking for is positive people as the last thing you see as you leave.
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Home Depot Cashier: To be ready to work and to be ready to put in the effort. And to put the time and effort it takes to get promoted because it takes a lot to get promoted at Home Depot.
