Hooters Interview Questions & Tips

The Best Times to Apply for Hooters Jobs

Popular restaurant chain Hooters uses the interview process to find the most fun, high-energy, and hardworking applicants possible. The one-of-a-kind restaurant chain conducts unique interviews to screen quality associates. Candidates usually need to come to stores in-person to begin evaluation processes. The best times to show up include slower periods after major lunch and dinner rushes, often between 2:00pm and 4:00pm, Monday through Thursday.

Considerations for Hooters Girl Jobs

Hooters Girl represents the most common and well-known position available with the restaurant chain. Looking for fun and friendly women, the chain keeps Hooters Girl interviews pleasant and lighthearted. Each interview usually includes 1:1 sessions with an assistant manager or store manager and may take place completed in one session or split into two separate interviews. Personality plays one of the most essential roles in Hooters Girl jobs. Hiring managers primarily ask personality-gauging questions. Some examples include: "What do you like most about Hooters?", "What do you do for fun?", "Are you comfortable with the Hooters uniform?", "Do you know any jokes?", and "What is your favorite game and why?" Additionally, interviewers may touch on education, transportation reliability, availability, and previous serving experience. In some cases, applicants may be asked if they can hula hoop and then be tested on it. If a manager likes a candidate, the interviewee is usually given a job offer on the spot.

Going for The Look

Visual appeal also plays part in Hooters' notoriety, and anyone looking for a job should look presentable for the interview. Hooters Girls maintain particular looks, and applicants hoping to get the job should look the part. Hiring officials describe the Hooters-Girl look as natural, clean, vibrant, and healthy. Candidates want to wear professional clothing showing off natural forms. Makeup should appear natural but accentuate features. The bar and grill suggests wearing mascara, blush, and lipstick or gloss. Hair should match the face shape and appear in a color complimentary to candidate woman skin tones. Applicants should avoid drastic, two-tone hair coloring . Additionally, tattoos remain prohibited and must be covered up with makeup.

How to Get a Job at Hooters

A restaurant all about entertainment, Hooters hires applicants able to make work fun. Traditionally, Hooters Girls should remain very energetic and bubbly. Applicants wondering how best to act should note the chain looks for individuals with cheerleader, surfer-girl, and girl-next-door personalities. Smiling often and maintaining proper eye contact with interviewers helps an applicant come across as right for the job. Every employee needs to show team player attitudes, and job seekers need to demonstrate teamwork abilities by talking about past successes in working with others. Every candidate should show enthusiasm for Hooters and eagerness to begin work.

Hooters Line Cook Interview Video

Video Transcript

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Hooters Line Cook: I was a cook. I was the head line cook. Prep in the morning. I would open up the grill side, get the… we had hot side and the cold side. That’s where the grill and the fryers were and then the cold side is like putting the food together. You have a set up where you set your plates up and then you put the condiments and sides and things like that. You just prep in the morning like everybody else. You would set up the hot side, set up the cold side. Turn the fryers on about 15 minutes before you would open. Start cooking up things that you need, like if you needed to make chili, you would cook up a pound of hamburger, just basic prep things.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Hooters Line Cook: Work environment was very, very friendly, very loosely based. It was more like you’re working with your friends, a lot of casual jargon. Just very like high school type atmosphere, you know what I mean? Just you’re friendly with everybody. You’re familiar, the guys, the girls, things like that. It was very, very easy flowing I would say.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Hooters Line Cook: My roommate at the time was holding a position like a bus boy with the company. He recommended me to the general manager. The general manager just had me come in, basically fill in an application as a formality. It was almost like a slam dunk. I had a friend on the inside that was like my roommate is basically a replication of me. He’s a hard worker and things like that. Based off his abilities and what he’s produced, they kind of trusted him and that’s how I got hired.

Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Hooters Line Cook: They just asked if you’re able to stay motivated, if they need to stay on top of you, whether they need to do that or not. Basically, they won’t truly care if you have any kitchen experience but that will really, really help you. That was my first time in the kitchen. They were willing to take me on and have me learn.

Interviewer: How were you notified that you received the job?
Hooters Line Cook: Right after the interview, he shook my hand and said, “You’re hired.” It was just a matter of getting me a uniform, getting me on the schedule and coming back the following day.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Hooters Line Cook: Apply and keep up with them to let them know that you’re interested. Let them know that you want to move up to the company, that you believe that it’s a place that you can grow. They want people who … even if you don’t have that experience, they want people who are willing to take that initiative and want to learn. Just show willingness to learn.
