Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Hooters Line Cook: I was a cook. I was the head line cook. Prep in the morning. I would open up the grill side, get the… we had hot side and the cold side. That’s where the grill and the fryers were and then the cold side is like putting the food together. You have a set up where you set your plates up and then you put the condiments and sides and things like that. You just prep in the morning like everybody else. You would set up the hot side, set up the cold side. Turn the fryers on about 15 minutes before you would open. Start cooking up things that you need, like if you needed to make chili, you would cook up a pound of hamburger, just basic prep things.
Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Hooters Line Cook: Work environment was very, very friendly, very loosely based. It was more like you’re working with your friends, a lot of casual jargon. Just very like high school type atmosphere, you know what I mean? Just you’re friendly with everybody. You’re familiar, the guys, the girls, things like that. It was very, very easy flowing I would say.
Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Hooters Line Cook: My roommate at the time was holding a position like a bus boy with the company. He recommended me to the general manager. The general manager just had me come in, basically fill in an application as a formality. It was almost like a slam dunk. I had a friend on the inside that was like my roommate is basically a replication of me. He’s a hard worker and things like that. Based off his abilities and what he’s produced, they kind of trusted him and that’s how I got hired.
Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Hooters Line Cook: They just asked if you’re able to stay motivated, if they need to stay on top of you, whether they need to do that or not. Basically, they won’t truly care if you have any kitchen experience but that will really, really help you. That was my first time in the kitchen. They were willing to take me on and have me learn.
Interviewer: How were you notified that you received the job?
Hooters Line Cook: Right after the interview, he shook my hand and said, “You’re hired.” It was just a matter of getting me a uniform, getting me on the schedule and coming back the following day.
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Hooters Line Cook: Apply and keep up with them to let them know that you’re interested. Let them know that you want to move up to the company, that you believe that it’s a place that you can grow. They want people who … even if you don’t have that experience, they want people who are willing to take that initiative and want to learn. Just show willingness to learn.
