Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Islands Employee: I was a host, so my basic duties were to greet people when they came in and then seat them in different sections, so that an even number of people were sat in each section, that each server had the same number of people.
Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Islands Employee: There was a hard copy application you have to turn in, and then if they like your answers to certain questions, and you look like a good candidate they call you back for a face-to-face interview with one of the managers. They just asked the generic questions, like why would you be a good fit here, just things to find out your work ethic, too – just really basic questions that don’t take a lot of thought, just honesty.
Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Islands Employee: Just basically, do you work well on a team, explain a situation when you worked well with a team, why do you want to work here. Just basic stuff like that, just getting to know you and your motives for why you’re there, trying to see if you’re there just for the paycheck, or if you’re just trying to get work experience to work your way up the ladder. I think they do ask that, too, “Do you see yourself trying to work from being a host to a server?”, or if you’re just trying to stay at the same spot. I think that was one of the questions, if you’re trying to work your way up the ladder. I think that was basically it. It was a really short interview, too. It was only a couple of questions. I think it was more like the manager reading you, seeing… First of all, you’ve got to be on time, but that’s like to any interview, just making sure you’re professional, you can handle your workload.
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Islands Employee: Always be on time. That’s to any job, though. If you say you’re going to be somewhere at a certain time, be there five minutes early at least. Always be ready to work and give your best effort. I feel like, at least in my life, I try to do my best at everything that I do even if it seems mundane – “Oh wow, I have to go to work today.” Don’t let it be like that. Put your best foot forward and try to do your best at everything.
