Jersey Mike’s Subs Interview Questions & Tips

Typical Hiring Proceedings

The nationwide network of Jersey Mike's Subs shops requires a large workforce of employees to maintain operations. Each store conducts hiring for entry-level jobs and managerial careers onsite at restaurant locations. Applicants submit required forms to a hiring manager either online or in-person and then wait to receive phone calls to schedule interviews based on the information provided. Hiring personnel, usually a shift leader or assistant manager, contact eligible job seekers to arrange face-to-face consultations with the aspiring workers.

The waiting period for interview consideration may only take a few moments for workers submitting hiring materials in-person. Online applicants may wait a day or two; however, candidates generally wait no longer than a week to hear back from the sandwich chain if eligible. The hiring process takes less than a week to complete but requires patience due to the longer durations of interviews.

When Will I Hear Back and How Long Do Interviews Last?

Upon receiving contact from a Jersey Mike's representative, applicants schedule meeting times and then attend job interviews onsite. The interview process features one or two interviews, with most applicants participating in a single job interview. Hiring sessions typically play out as informal and relaxed but lengthy. A single interview may last up to an hour, and sometimes more.

Common Jersey Mike's Interview Questions

The interviews feature fast food industry-standard questions like: "Why do you want to work for Jersey Mike's Subs?", "Are there any times you can recall where you received excellent customer service?", and "How would you personally define customer service?" Jersey Mike's also poses hypothetical scenarios to aspiring associates. The situations may range from what to do if a fellow coworker seems overwhelmed with daily tasks to serving customers and what to do with potentially spoiled or questionable food.

Ideal Applicants

Confident, attentive, and genuine individuals gain additional consideration for hiring during the Jersey Mike's interview process. The restaurant operates as a fast food chain, and workers should possess the ability to perform job duties in expedient and disciplined manners while always engaging with customers in personable and friendly ways. Most locations traditionally hire workers during final job interviews. Applicants then begin training a few days later.

Video Transcript

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Jersey Mike’s Subs Crew Member: I was a crew member. My duties, everyone has the same duty. It was just everyone switch off, on and off. Sometimes I had to wash dishes. Sometimes, I had to do the toppings. Sometimes I was working the grill and sometimes I was just a cashier. It really depends on how busy it is, what you’re doing and how many employees there are at the time.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Jersey Mike’s Subs Crew Member: In the morning, it’s slow. When the afternoon hits, like it’s just really busy. You got to be really focused to make sure you’re not messing up people’s orders and stuff. Then after the afternoon time, it’s slow again. Basically afternoon is when it’s busiest. It’s kind of hectic then. Other than that, it’s pretty good. It’s a friendly environment. People are friendly.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Jersey Mike’s Subs Crew Member: It was pretty straightforward. I just, what I did, I went to the manager. I went to the store, asked for the manager if I could see him. I introduced myself. My name is Jeffrey. I asked him for the application process. I made sure I introduced myself to the manager so I’m not just like I’m someone he knows. I filled up the application and gave it to him. Then like three weeks later he calls me for the application. I came in like very professionally with a dress shirt and tie and did the interview. I got the job.

Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Jersey Mike’s Subs Crew Member: Pretty simple questions like what’s your work… when are you free, why do you want to work here, stuff like that.

Interviewer: How were you notified that you received the job?
Jersey Mike’s Subs Crew Member: They probably told me about a week later. Yeah, he just called me and told me I got the job.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Jersey Mike’s Subs Crew Member: It’s a pretty simple job. Don’t be nervous. It’s not too difficult. It takes a lot … if you get the job, it takes a while to learn how to do the grilling and toppings and stuff. It gets easy after a while.

You must be 18 to use the meat slicer but only 16 to be hired there but getting hired as a 16 year old is very unlikely. Do not wear jeans or a t-shirt to the interview and just be really genuine. Employees get half off on all food but you are aloud to take home the mistakes.
