Long John Silver’s Cook: Was the cook, cooking all the fish, all the chicken, all our shrimp. Whatever had to be cooked, that was pretty much what I did.
Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Long John Silver’s Cook: That was the typical go in, fill out the paper application, and I got to talk right directly to the manager.
Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Long John Silver’s Cook: He asked me if I had any experience cooking. He asked me if I had any fast-paced, you know this is a fast-paced business, you got to be able to go, pick it up and do this, get through the lunch rush. He said, “Do you have a problem cleaning bathrooms? Going outside, doing the parking lot?” I told him, “No problem at all.”
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Long John Silver’s Cook: They would have to be versatile. That means you’d have to come in and sometimes you’ve got to cook and then they may throw you up on the register when they’re short, like at any fast food place. Don’t get fixated and stuck on one thing. If you’re a cook and you come in and they need somebody to clean bathrooms because we’re short or they need someone on register, you got to be very versatile. The days of just coming in and “I’m a cook, that’s all I’m going to do is cook,” no, them days are over. They need someone that’s going to be willing to clean the bathrooms, do the parking lot, pick up trash, wipe tables. Whatever it is, just don’t complain, do it. That’s what they’re looking for.

Long John Silver’s Cashier: Well, the manager told me she liked my smile. She liked that I was up for it, and I like talking and expressing my feelings.
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Long John Silver’s Cashier: Try your hardest, and don’t wait for the manager to call you back. You should call them back.
