Tips for Applying

A career portal on the company website enables candidates to submit applications online. By accessing available jobs, applicants need to choose a position to apply for, select a location, and complete the hiring form. Not all current positions available at a preferred location appear online, in some cases, so another possibility includes applying in person.

Visiting the grocery retail chain frequently gives prospective employees the opportunity to speak with a hiring manager personally, which could increase hiring possibilities exponentially.

Application Status

Each location may review applications for employment with varying speeds and frequency. Hiring managers typically respond to submitted applications within one to two weeks. After applying and receiving no response in the characteristic time frame, candidates should contact the appropriate location by phone or in person to show genuine interest in the position applied for.

Limit follow-through contact in order to avoid disrupting managerial daily routines. Showing suitable enthusiasm, signifying an ability to work an accommodating schedule, and following up in an appropriate manner should improve candidate success in obtaining an interview with Meijer.

I was employed with Meijer in the cheese and deli departments. My job responsibilities included rotating cheese and pizzas by expiration dates and discarding expired food items. I also made pizzas and repacked cheese. In the deli department I offered customer service, operated the meat slicer, weighed products and labeled food. During the closing shift I put deli food in the refrigerator and washed the dishes. I also restocked deli items. I then worked in the meat and seafood department. I gave assistance in retrieving live lobsters, and cooking or packaging them for the customer. This position also included weighing beef, chicken and seafood for customers, packaging food products, and following cleaning and closing procedures.
