Video Transcript
Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Meijer Sales Associate: My job title with Meijer was I was a sales associate and bagger. My job duties included gathering carts, helping the guests with their groceries, and assisting the guests with any needs they have.
Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Meijer Sales Associate: The work environment at Meijer was actually very friendly. When I first started there, I was a little intimidated by all the workers that they had, but they were very friendly in bringing me on board. It made me feel comfortable with my job.
Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?
Meijer Sales Associate: My favorite part about working at Meijer was actually working the third shift. I would get there at ten o’ clock, get off at six o’ clock in the morning. Like I said, the environment was so alive. It was peaceful. The store was quiet, and it allowed you to work at your own pace. Working, thinking, and being able to concentrate at the same time.
Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee.
Meijer Sales Associate: You get there – usually the first thing you do is clock in, have a group meeting with your department, where you’d be assigned your daily duties, your daily tracking sheets. Pull all those apart and make sure they’re completed. When the tasks are complete, you will find a manager to see if there’s anything else to do and continue on with your work shift.
Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Meijer Sales Associate: The application and interview process… I filled out the application. It was a paper application. I went through two interviews. Interviews I felt like were real intense because they were looking for the perfect employee. Because of that, I felt like the questions were a little bit intense. Obviously, I handled the questions because they hired me.
Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Meijer Sales Associate: Your job history. I think a lot of their questions were geared towards the future: “Where do you plan on being in five years?”, “Where do you see yourself growing with this company?”, “How can you help this company expand?” They were looking for longevity out of their employees, which I thought was a good thing.
Interviewer: What set you apart from the other candidates?
Meijer Sales Associate: My customer service skills – my ability to help guests in a timely fashion, my ability to make a decision and help the guests successfully – and I think my personality was what helped me get the job. I was able to sell myself during the interview.
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Meijer Sales Associate: To go in with a positive attitude, go in with confidence knowing that you’re going to be working with a good company. And a good company is going to be taking care of you, as long as you take care of them.
