Getting Started
Nationwide frozen yogurt chain Menchie's provides thousands of opportunities across the country through more than 275 locations. Using a fairly standard interview process to onboard workers, the company contacts job seekers shortly after reviewing submitted information. Following the initial contact made by hiring managers, applicants visit locations of choice to participate in job interviews.
Length of Process
Some job hopefuls complete the entire hiring process within a couple of days. Outliers may take up to two weeks to successfully navigate all parts of the hiring process.
Hiring Staff Expectations
Preparation for the interview process should include researching company history, products, and target audiences. Ideal workers possess exceptional customer service skills and brand awareness. The ice cream shop company generally hires younger workers to fill entry-level jobs. College and high school students represent the average employee. Applicants able to demonstrate a genuine desire to work in the ice cream industry and basic knowledge of Menchie's product lines typically gain hiring consideration regardless of background.
Ideal Candidate Traits
Arrive early to each job interview ready to sit with hiring managers for at least 20 minutes. Of desirable personality traits sought after by representatives, positivity, dependability, and efficient work ethics rank as the most wanted.
Interview Questions
Menchie's interview questions reflect the need for friendly, efficient, and adaptable associates with inquiries like:
- When was the last time you made someone smile?
- Why do you think you're a good fit to work at Menchie's?
- Do you regularly exceed expectations?

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Menchie’s Team Member: So, for the first year I worked there, I was a team member. I got promoted to supervisor later. But basically there were two to three people on a shift. So you were basically running the store with those people. So you would have someone in the front, you’d either be in the front or you’d be prepping in the back or taking care of toppings in the front. Stuff like that. Or, if it’s trucks, you’re unpacking toppings, cups, everything like that.
Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Menchie’s Team Member: Well, it depends. Usually it’s pretty slow, especially in the Winter. So it’s a lot less to do. So you’re going be, there’s going to be more downtime. But in the Summer months it’s a lot of work. There’s probably going to be three instead of two people. So you’re going to have to be cleaning a lot more. You’re going to have a lot more customers, so it’s going to be more stressful.
Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?
Menchie’s Team Member: Well, probably the free yogurt. And then plus people that worked at my Menchie’s, they were all young. There was nobody over 30 so we got along as friends well.
Interviewer: Please describe the application and interview process.
Menchie’s Team Member: So I filled out an application a couple months before I got called to an interview. They called me for an interview, I came in. And after the interview I was basically hired on the spot. So then I did a background check and I came into work once that went through.
Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Menchie’s Team Member: Well, they just asked me about my previous employment, what did I do. Or my experience with customer service. They gave me different scenarios like, “What would you do in this situation if somebody was angry?” Of course go find a manager.
Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?
Menchie’s Team Member: Well, I had prior job experience before that. Menchie’s wasn’t my first job. I did the Summer before, well the months before I got hired, I was a peer mentor at a camp. So I already had experience working with people. And then I worked in an office a Summer before. So I already had the deal with being patient with people.
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Menchie’s Team Member: I feel like you should just be a laid back person. Just because that’s what they’re looking for. They want somebody that’s going to get along with the staff and that’s gonna get along with the customers, so that we don’t have a bad reputation.

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Menchie’s Team Member: Menchie’s. Menchie’s was very busy. Menchie’s cleaning mostly, picking up yogurt after little kids getting out of school every day. Yeah, cleaning, restocking yogurt because it was self-serve so didn’t do much. The cash register, things like that.
Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Menchie’s Team Member: The work environment was friendly. Menchie’s is like … They’re all about friendliness so you just have to have the smile on your face, and please the customers, and things like that. It was really cool.
Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?
Menchie’s Team Member: My favorite part would be tasting our new flavors, when we’d get a new flavor every month to see what can I tell the customer like, “This is the stuff you need to get.”
Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Menchie’s Team Member: The application process was online and then they e-mailed me saying that I had an interview. Then the interview was also … A group interview, as the other one was as well. We sat there and I can’t remember. He quizzed us actually, we did math. We did math problems and stuff like that, so that’s who the interviewing process was. We just did a lot of math problems. It was weird.
Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Menchie’s Team Member: What he was basically saying … Okay, I remember this one, “If you wanted to be a flavor of yogurt, what kind of flavor would you be?” I know that’s super corny but yeah.
Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?
Menchie’s Team Member: When everyone found out that they were hiring, all my friends tried to work there so we all worked there. I don’t know. When I first got there, I got employee of the month when I first got there and I think that … I don’t know. Me, I just always have a smile on my face and my friends don’t, so I think that they didn’t really like it there because it was always friendly and they’re just like ehh. I think that’s kind of how I was different.
Interviewer: How were you notified that you received the job?
Menchie’s Team Member: It was a day between, getting the interview and then the day after getting the interview, a call back to work and schedule and stuff.
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Menchie’s Team Member: Menchie’s is a good place to work. Menchie’s is just a really nice environment … Well, the one I worked at. It was a really nice environment and it was around a nice area too.

Ginda says:
I was just interviewed today. It was a group interview. I showed up 15 minutes early and most of the applicants were already there. They asked that you bring a resume. The did not ask about school, but you do have to be at least 16.
They also asked:
What is one word that describes you?
What is your favorite flavor?
Why Menchie’s?
They didn’t mention pay and I didn’t bring it up either.
They asked to be dressed business casual.
They did not do a drug test.
Tru says:
