Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
New York & Company Sales Associate: I was a Seasonal Associate, which is basically a Sales Associate. Basically I did from cashier to fitting rooms to assisting customers with whatever they needed, like clothes, if they needed a size and it wasn’t there I would go in the back and get it for them. What else did I do… Basically just making sure everything’s organized in the store. So yeah. That’s basically what I did.
Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
New York & Company Sales Associate: I guess it was fun, very stress-free, you knew what you had to do, nothing was too hard to do. It was pretty self-explanatory, everyone was willing to help. Everyone knew what they had to do so it was very organized and what’s another to say it … I guess very pleasant. Yeah.
Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?
New York & Company Sales Associate: I guess working with my friend. She’s the one who told me about it and I was like “Okay.” I guess working with her made it more comfortable for me so it was better for me to work there. Then meeting the people there, the personalities, we all kind of just were like a group of friends working in a store. So yeah, I guess that was the best part of it.
Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
New York & Company Sales Associate: It was a paper application, questions about my previous work which I had only worked at a restaurant before. Just questions about my social security, all that tax information, whatnot. Then the interview process, they just asked me when I was available, what experience I had before. What else did they ask me. What skills I had. They asked me … What else did they ask me… Why I wanted to work there and what I was studying at school, they also asked that stuff.
Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?
New York & Company Sales Associate: Probably that I was bilingual. That really did help because they needed more people who spoke Spanish. My friend told them that I did speak Spanish so I guess that was another plus into it. I was just more available they needed too. So yeah, I guess that was it.
Interviewer: How were you notified that you received the job?
New York & Company Sales Associate: They called me about it. They literally called me like the next day, so yeah. It was pretty quick.
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
New York & Company Sales Associate: Definitely define your skill set. That’s one thing that I’ve noticed in the jobs that I’ve applied to, is like they’re skill set, they’re really looking for that. Just have a specific skill set that stands out I guess would really help you.
