Most job opportunities feature age minimums of 18, though certain positions may use different age requirements depending on the type of work performed. Server – Servers maintain responsibility for making sure guests receive everything necessary for satisfying dining experiences. Major duties include welcoming seated customers to the restaurant, taking food and drink orders, and bringing completed orders to the table from the kitchen. Servers also perform cashier duties to accurately record sales and housekeeping responsibilities to keep dining areas clean. Previous serving experience and flexible schedule availability tend to help applicants obtain server jobs. Like many other restaurant chains, O’Charley’s pays servers less than minimum wage in return for allowing the entry-level workers to enjoy increased earning potential via customer gratuity.

Bartender – Bartenders specialize in preparing and serving alcoholic beverages. In addition to serving guests seated in the bar area of the restaurant, bartenders fulfill the alcoholic drink orders of servers working in the dining room. The dynamic position demands comprehensive knowledge of the specific ingredients used to make various cocktails and beverages. As a result, previous experience generally proves helpful, if not necessary, in obtaining bartending jobs. Bartenders not only make and serve drinks but take food orders from bar guests and need to know the restaurant menu intimately. Like servers, bartenders usually earn between $3.00 and $5.00 per hour in addition to tips from customers.

Line Cook – Workers familiar with culinary processes and committed to cleanliness and safety often make ideal candidates for line cook jobs, which take place in fast-paced kitchen environments. Line cooks handle ingredients and use various standard cooking techniques to prepare meals for customers. The culinary position entails the frequent operation of potentially hazardous equipment, such as grills, ovens, and stovetops. Consequently, line cooks must demonstrate attention to detail and remain aware of surrounding work environments at all times. In addition to cooking food, culinary employees make sure meals look aesthetically pleasing. Pay rates for line cook jobs hover around $9.00 or $10.00 an hour.

Management – Involved in every aspect of running a restaurant, managers ensure the effectiveness of subordinate employees and the financial wellbeing of the business. From driving sales and increasing profitability to providing guidance and supervising hourly associates, managerial responsibilities encompass a wide range of tasks demanding business acumen, prior knowledge of restaurant operations, and highly developed leadership skills. Interactions with different audiences prove typical of management careers, as managers regularly communicate with customers, direct reports, and corporate officials to keep all parties up to date with relevant information about the restaurant. Managers also hire and schedule employees for work and hold associates accountable for tasks completed on the job. Previous leadership experience in restaurant environments generally serves as the primary hiring requirement for managerial jobs. Salary options for managers range up to $65,000 per year, depending on job title.
