Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Papa John’s Team Member: We were floor, we worked the floor. You pretty much worked phone and cash, and then folding boxes up to actually making the pizza. I never actually got to slap the dough.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Papa John’s Team Member: Actually, it was really fun environment. It was a little community, like if you get to your rush, and then you were just chilling. It was one of the most chill atmospheres to work at.

Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee.
Papa John’s Team Member: It would start out slow, and then as soon as you hit dinner, you would get a huge dinner rush. Then, you work through it, and it would slow down again, with a couple little mini-rushes, and the occasional late-night, one or two pizzas. Then, it was slow from then on.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Papa John’s Team Member: The application… I just went in and asked for an application. Then I turned it in, and a day later, I got a call, and it was just on the spot. I got hired on the spot. There wasn’t really much of an interview. I just had what they wanted, I guess.

Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Papa John’s Team Member: Am I able to work weekends – weekends is a big thing for the pizza industry. And was I able to have what’s called a “varying schedule?” My hours were listed, but I would get called in three hours early or I would be late three hours out. The schedule did vary.

Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?
Papa John’s Team Member: Really flexible schedule. Flexible schedule works with everything.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Papa John’s Team Member: Generally, just hardworking – be able to work a rush. Know when to work fast, know when to just catch up.

Papa John’s Prep Cook: I was a prepper. Basically, a prepper is a person that prepares the pizza before it is being made. Basically things like having the dough basically prepared for the people to put toppings and cheese and prepare for the customers to order.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Papa John’s Prep Cook: The work environment is very open. Sometimes, you can be secluded from the other people there making the pizza. But once the pizza is done, it’s kind of like an open environment. Everyone’s friendly, everyone knows each other, so it’s a very good work environment.

Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee.
Papa John’s Prep Cook: A typical day; you come in, you got to make sure everything is ready to make the pizza. Everything has to be refilled, because if nothing’s refilled, then if a rush comes in, things will run out. So you make sure everything is up-to-date and fresh and just getting ready for the customers to come in.

Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Papa John’s Prep Cook: What they wanted to know from me is responsibility, if I’m prompt, and if I have transportation to come there, and kind of how I can benefit the Papa John’s organization.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Papa John’s Prep Cook: I’ll tell them go apply. Some things can be hard, but overall, you’ll have a good time working at Papa John’s.

Papa John’s Crew Member: My job title there was in-store employee, and basic duties were to just answer the phones and take orders on the computer, and also cash people out when they came to pick up their pizzas.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Papa John’s Crew Member: Usually there was two managers working, and depending on when we were busy, three to four other people with my same job title were working alongside me. Then, there were drivers, as well.

Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee.
Papa John’s Crew Member: When I come in, I would always clock in first. Then, in addition to taking orders on the phone, there were things that needed to be cleaned. We would do that in between being busy. I would always get a break during my shift. That was pretty much it. I would help my manager with anything else before I clocked out.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Papa John’s Crew Member: The interview was really easy. This was back in my junior year of high school. I don’t exactly remember what kind of questions they asked, but I know my manager was really easy-going, and I think the fact I was nice and expressed I was a hardworking person, it was pretty easy to get the job.

Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Papa John’s Crew Member: I would say they were all pretty basic. She asked me if I was comfortable working with food and talking to customers, that was pretty much what I was doing during my whole shift.

Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?
Papa John’s Crew Member: I just think that I was very personable, and that’s definitely something that they look for. They want good customer service. I was a good student in school, but I had other things on my resume. Clubs I was in at school, which was probably what set me apart from someone else that was just walking in off the street to get a job.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Papa John’s Crew Member: If I was giving someone else advice about working at Papa John’s, kind of like I’ve said before, you really have to be personable, and able to talk to customers. They’re not always going to be happy with the way you’re conducting business with them, but you just have to be understanding and willing to fix the problem, it’s not always going to go your way. Keeping in mind that you have to have good customer service. And so, if you’re personable, you don’t mind working with food, I’d say it’s a good fit for someone like that.
