Publix Cashier Interview Video

Video Transcript

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Publix Cashier: I was a cashier and a front service personnel. I would man a register and then scan things or if I was a bagger, I would just bag things. The work experience was nice. Everyone’s friendly and stuff like that.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Publix Cashier: It was easy flowing. I mean there’s always slow times at any store or stuff like that. A typical day went pretty fast. There wasn’t anything I hated. I liked it. It was nice.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Publix Cashier: The application, usually you go to a store and then there would be a computer that you type in all the stuff on. There’s a test on there that you take, just questions. Then once you get interviewed, the manager will come up to you or you would go to the manager and he will just ask you a series of questions. Then you usually get hired on the spot. Yeah, it’s pretty easy. You have to show initiative.

Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Publix Cashier: Publix is a drug-free environment so they’ll actually drug test you as well. Then he’ll just ask you questions to figure out your personal background, like, what are your family values and stuff like that? Yeah, just personal questions, really.

Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?
Publix Cashier: I showed initiative. I went to the managers and would be, “Hey, are you guys hiring?” They’d say, “No.” Then I’d come back a couple weeks later and I’d be, “Hey, are you hiring?” I showed that initiative and they ended up hiring me later.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Publix Cashier: Just look clean, I guess, because you know that, unfortunately, you can’t have any facial hair. You can have a mustache but that’s about it. Just be well rounded and good.
