A Rite Aid pharmacy technician serves customers at the pharmacy counter. Key customer care responsibilities include greeting customers, answering questions, obtaining information on new prescriptions, and maintaining customer confidentiality. A Rite Aid pharmacy technician also performs cash register operations, such as handling cash, processing payments, providing change, issuing receipts, and bagging items.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

Question: Please describe your job title and primary duties.

Answer: My job title… I started off as a cashier and worked my way up to pharmacy technician. My duties were everything: serving patients, filling orders, handing them down to the pharmacists, stocking all the drugs. And as far as the cashier, I had to do the cashier, then truck when it comes in.

Question: What was the work environment like?

Answer: Pretty crazy, especially around the first of the month when everyone is renewing their prescriptions. Busy – you have to be on top of things. We have a 15-minute time period where you’re supposed to get the prescriptions done in 15 minutes or they get like a $5 gift card. People are looking at their watches, and it’s busy.

Question: How would you describe the application and interview process?

Answer: Like I said, I started off as a cashier and heard from a friend that they were hiring. I got an application through her and got the job and went from there.

Question: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?

Answer: What was my previous job experience, and before I had worked for a foot doctor. And I had worked for another drug store, so that was kind of nice being able to go from a drug store to another drug store. I was going to school, too, so they wanted to know if I was able to do both. That was pretty much it.

Question: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?

Answer: I’d say you have to have patience. Just know that you might not be able to take a break. A lot of people like to smoke, so that may be a little interference. And, if anything, just patience.

Question: Please describe your job title and primary duties.

Answer: I was a pharmacy intern at Rite Aid, and I was responsible for assisting the pharmacist with anything, whatever duties, and then closing and opening the shop. Yes, that’s it.

Question: What was the work environment like?

Answer: A formal healthcare setting pretty much. We had uniforms. It was mostly a healthcare setting, so there was a lot of confidentiality involved.

Question: What was your favorite part about working there?

Answer: I think the information. I just learned a lot about medications in that job, and I also learned to be more empathetic with people. That was the most important thing that I learned.

Question: Please describe a typical day as an employee.

Answer: We came in about 6:00, set up things, did recounts of all medications, made sure that there were no phone messages or email as far as pharmacy refills went, and if the pharmacist had anything that they wanted help with. Then, we’d go through the day. We also had a drive-thru, so we attended to people at the drive-thru. Then, at the end of the day, we would just do a recount of all the medication and took care of money. And, that’s it.

Question: How would you describe the application and interview process?

Answer: I had an online application and interview with the pharmacy manager, an interview with the store manager, and I think that was it. I also had a little bit of training to do.

Question: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?

Answer: Since it was an intern job, they asked me for my college transcript. Then, they asked me a few things that were relevant with the pharmacy field. They also wanted to make sure I had pretty good analytical skills and computer skills. Other than that, just good service.

Question: What set you apart from other candidates?

Answer: Whether you’re personable or not, whether they can trust you. Because you’re trusted with medication, it’s just kind of important that they can be with someone that can be discrete about certain things, because sometimes patients have embarrassing questions that they need asked. So, you just want to make sure that you are compassionate and you can show that.

Question: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?

Answer: Remember at the end of the day that each prescription does go to a patient. A patient is different from the average customer because they’re sick and you never know what they’re going through. So, you always want to make sure that you give them the best service.
