Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Rooms To Go Dispatcher: I was a dispatcher. My job there was to go ahead and help out the drivers when they needed help when they were making delivery. If the customer wasn’t home or if they had some issues with the furniture, I would go ahead and talk to the drivers and also assist the customer.
Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Rooms To Go Dispatcher: It was friendly. Everybody was there … I wouldn’t say that they were helpful, like management wise, they wouldn’t help as much but all of the other co-workers, it was a friendly environment. You got to know each other. You got to actually meet outside of work and spend time with them so it was friendly. When it came to work, you wouldn’t get much help if you had a problem. If you couldn’t solve it yourself, management wise, it was a lack of help there.
Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Rooms To Go Dispatcher: My interview was, literally, maybe five to ten minutes. He just asked me simple questions, my previous jobs that I had, my school, if I was going to college or if I was in high school. From what I remember, that was basically it. He just asked me what kind of schedule would you want to work and he was like, okay, you can start next week. It wasn’t really a tough interview. It was just like an in and out, you’re hired.
Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?
Rooms To Go Dispatcher: I put all my work into the job. There’s a lot of people that wouldn’t. They wouldn’t give their 100%, they would give maybe their 75% or sometimes even 50. They would miss work whenever they want. I would think they could actually set up better policies. They were really lenient with the work that they would provide so I think really didn’t have much competition with the other employees.
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Rooms To Go Dispatcher: Take notes of what they first learn. After that, pay really attention and ask all of the questions that you have because later on, if you don’t ask questions, you’re not going to get much help. You’re on your own a lot of the times managers are not there. They’re at the warehouse maybe or you’ll call them or something, they’re not able to help you. Take good notes from the beginning. Take really good notes from the beginning and ask all the questions you have because later on it will be complicated.
